Digital TV tuners and cpu useage?

hi all i recently upgraded my computer (from athlon Xp1700+ to a Xp2500+ (overclocked to 3200+), plus new motherboard and hard drive) and this upgrade also include a new Aver media DVB-T digital tv tuner (A771 model).

It works great, though i am still getting used to the software.

However just watching tv uses about 35% of the cpu useage, which seems very high! With my old anolgue tv tuner i do not remember this being an issue even on my old duron 800Mhz system.


Using Dscaler with my old tv tuner the useage was about 20% with my athlon 1700+.



do all digital tv tuners have such high useage and is there any other software i can use with it? (dsclaer doesn't detect it)

The tuner and signal processor chips on those cards run without any CPU load, and so does the forwarding of the stream into the graphics card's overlay buffer. If the graphics card applies GPU-based deinterlacing and filtering, you won't see a CPU load either.

If you however chose some CPU-based deinterlacing or other image enhancement, then there's your CPU load.

i understand the explanation and it makes sence.

In regards to dscaler i had control of the type of deinterlaction etc, however with my digital tv tuner it has been installed straight out of the box with the newest drivers and there are no option to select anything like that.

As it is the first digital tv tuner i have used, i have nothing to compare it with.

The hardware based cards like the WinTV 250 uses like 1-2%. One uses the CPU, one doesn't. But the cost are probably way different, the 250 cost like $100+.
