I've heard of this feature for GF3's. My question is does anyone use it? And does it really help? It sounds to me like a trademarked overhyped/marketing ploy contrast slider. If anyone could help on what this feature does, that'd be great.
In all honesty it's nothing more then a glorified gamma slider. That said, it's much more simplistic to set properly then the gamma settings for you card, and can really make quite an appreciable difference.
Anything you can do with in you can pretty much match with the regular gamma settings but it'll take a lot of time and tweaking... with the DVC it pretty much seems to pick the "perfect" settings autmoatically in many cases.
It's nothing that would really impact my purchasing decisions at all, but it's a nice little tweak.
Actually, the DVC seems to be more of a voltage boost to DAC output. It leaves color resolution alone, which is a good thing.
When you adjust gamma, contrast or brightness, you necessarily reduce color resolution, which may be unnoticeable and OK in games but unacceptable for, e.g., digital photography.
I used to use DVC on my "old" geforce3 and loved it - now I've got an ATI - is there any 3rd party software I can use to gain a similar effect? I've tried moving the color sliders around in ATI's advance color settings, but that just screws things up and doesn't increase my color saturation like the DVC did.
