Maybe one thing AMD can do to stimulate 28nm dGPU sales (eg, Tonga) is to include a extra rebate when it is bundled with FX-83xx CPU.

This way folks that might not have considered desktop dGPU could more easily become a first time buyer?

P.S. Core i3 does not serve all low budget needs. In fact, AtenRA found this out comparing Core i3 6300 vs. FX-8150 (using HD7950 @ 1000 Mhz) in Battlefield 4 64 player.

As we can see above even with Mantle (a low level graphics API) the i3 isn't nearly as smooth as the FX-8150.

Minor difference, and he crippled Core i3-6100 with slow memory.

I think the results are pretty dramatic actually.

The i3-6300 did dip down to 1 FPS at one point and dips to 50 FPS on a regular basis.

The FX-8150, in contrast, was over 60 FPS the entire time.

But the frame time variance is where the FX-8150 appears to really pull ahead.

However, according to the review thread he did use DDR3. So if BF 4 64 player is memory intensive there would be some additional gains for the i3-6300.

According to this report, AMD Desktop dGPU took marketshare from NVIDIAs dGPU in Q4 2015.

Lets see if this will continue in Q1 and Q2 2016 or not.

And according to this report Nvidia s claimed DTGPU 80% marketshare is BS :

Nvidia’s desktop discrete GPU shipments were down -7.56% from last quarter
AMD’s shipments of.........Desktop discrete GPUs increased 6.69% from last quarter
If Nvidia actualy had 80% of the marketshare then AMD s shipments should had increased by close to 30% since the market didnt shrink those last months.

Also Carrizo seems to sell very well and did more or less save the day at AMD :

AMD’s shipments of desktop heterogeneous GPU/CPUs, i.e., APUs, for desktops decreased 4.3% from the previous quarter, AMD’s shipments were up 30.3% in notebooks

Not a bad idea- ditch the game coupons and just give straight up rebates on AMD processors when you buy a bundle.

That would only affect someone only already in the AMD ecosystem. It might push Intel users away. What would an Intel user do with an AMD CPU rebate? At least game vouchers have resell value that don't require a proof of purchase and receipt.

I was thinking of doing it the other way around- give GPU vouchers away with the CPU. (They recently started giving away came coupons with the FX CPUs.) If you're buying a new CPU, you're probably doing a full system rebuild, and likely to want a new GPU.

It's still above 2000 levels, which is what he was saying.

Just barely..... and IDC is forecasting that desktops will drop below 2000 levels by 2019. So his statement was way off -- Both Intel and AMD are shipping less desktop chips than they were
at the peak of PC shipments in 2011.

...why are you focusing on PC? It's like you didn't even read what mrmt said.

Because he's deliberating adding mobile to push the F.U.D.

PC is down quite a bit for both Intel and AMD -- and AMD can't afford to pay people to take their chips (like Intel does for the contra revenue in mobile).

Intel lost 4.2 Billion due to mobile last year alone -- that is nearly triple AMD's market cap (for the entire company).

You don't understand how contra revenue works... after, what, two years now?

Smh.

Really wish mark would be harder on people like you. You wouldn't have lasted a day, back when ViRGE was moderating...
Yup, strange that some people could not understand this point...
1000 years gulag, IMO.

All I said was that the PC market today was bigger than in the year 2000. If you don't disagree with this statement then stop ridiculing yourself and shut up, the entire forum already knows that you have serious issues to read and understand simple statements.

Yes, Intel rakes in billions in profit by paying people to take its PC chips. Best. Business Model. Ever.

Problem with that is that their cpus are much less competitive than their dgpus and work better with nVidia cards due to less overhead. If i were building a system, there are definitely AMD dgpus that I would consider, but not one cpu that I would even give a thought to, except perhaps an Athlon x4 for a lowest end systen.

I meant that it came around two years ago, and the guy doesn't have the slightest idea how it works, and what its purpose is.

We really, really need to do a user purge.

You're priceless:
Disagree with someone's opinion and you think that respective user should be banned.

Coming from a barely 100+ post newbie, too..... For the win.
