Update: I wrote the report, made it concise and short. I only included items that I was 100% sure about. Anything I half-heard or where I was distracted and could not reliably document, I omitted. Left out any personal judgments and stuck to only facts.
Management moved fast and by the end of the week there was already action. The woman involved and I had a brief discussion this morning and she told me she had a sit down with the boss and he personally apologized as well as wrote a letter of apology to her. The three of them had a meeting and she described it an a calm but uncomfortable ass-chewing delivered by the big boss on proper management style, proper manners and professional expectations.
I met with my boss today and nothing was ever discussed between the two of us about the incident, business as normal. But he is noticeably a different person this morning. Calmer, perhaps showing a bit of restraint on the casual ever present profanity that so permeated his everyday speech. Even his joking boisterous side was subdued.
