Hello everyone,

Which of these drives have better performance ? I say this for practical applications, benchmarks do not take into account insofar as they confirm something.

Which SSD do you recommend? I'm confused....really..

Either one based on price. They're both fantastic top-dog SSDs. You won't notice the difference for practical applications.

Ok guys. Thanks for answers. I just have one last question. On another forum I found out that Crucial has a better boot times in system/games/programs. This is due to better work with files 4K, that's true ?

I have a 64 GB M4, which has performed excellently for me. I am, however, replacing it with a 128GB 830. No special reason, other than the excellent reviews the Samsung has garnered and my desire to see for myself.

And if are in the same price?

Crucial / Micron employs more US residents. Micron / Intel NAND might even be made in the US, as they have a couple US manufacturing sites.

Both have similar track records on quality and such, so I'd choose Crucial based on that.

Best advice in here. I wish people would look at the big picture once in a while instead of one drive having a 'toolbox' or starting windows .5 seconds faster.

Yeah, since SSD performance is so close, I've basically limited my own options to Crucial / Micron or Intel just based on their success at being price competitive while actually having manufacturing facilities in the US.

They may not be the ABSOLUTE BEST or ABSOLUTE CHEAPEST, but they are reliable and close enough on cost and performance that other factors enter into my purchase decisions.

How is buying an all American product "the best advice in here" on an international forum?

Just buy based on price. I was struggling with the same question you have, but when I saw an M4 pop up on SD for $130 I just bit it. I'm not going to keep waiting, especially since you most likely will not notice the difference between the M4 and the 830. Unless your job is to run benchmarks.

Crucial / Micron employs more US residents.

I try to buy nothing but Crucial RAM for just this reason. I buy G.Skill sometimes though.

Micron / Intel NAND might even be made in the US, as they have a couple US manufacturing sites.

All of their NAND is made at the IMFT plant in Lehi, Utah. I have not heard that they've ramped up NAND production at any other facility.

If US mfg location/jobs is a consideration you might add Mushkin to the list.

Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains in Denver, Colorado, Mushkin Enhanced provides performance computer products to users worldwide.

I've installed numerous SSD's using many brands.

Mushkin performance and stability rivals the Crucial, Samsung and Intel drives imo.

How intriguing, I was about to post the exact same question [128GB models].
But from looking at price/performance [most of the time, the Samsung is A LOT more expensive], the Crucial drive easily has the upper-hand; as well as proven reliability.
What Samsung does have, is absolute full control over their drives as they manufacture everything from the controller, PCB and the NAND, etc. [from what I've read] and have a good past history with reliability of previous SSDs [the 470 series?], as well as their Spinpoint HDDs.

Even though the OP has already made their choice - this is just as reference for future consumers who may be in this dilemma.

Exactly. People that live in a small world and need to get a passport. There's a couple points on that.

You should always buy the best product- unless you want a lower quality product next year. Buying inferior product is never good for the market.

Not to mention the adage "never be loyal to anything that's not loyal to you", and the flag, and a nation- is not. Xenophobic nationalism is for fools- and if that's your last vestige to save a dying economy, rather than the best products- it's not going to work.
If you don't create piles of crap and try to sell it- the Koreans will buy your product too. I heard Apples doing well.

Not to mention, the world are our neighbors.

If buying products manufactured by your own countrymen in order to help your own neighbors feed their family is xenophobic nationalism is for fools then maybe we should all be a little foolish.

Anyways, buy whichever drive is cheapest because the performance difference is negligible.

I will buy Samsung

Thx for answers !

If you haven't already pulled the trigger, one suggestion: get the laptop upgrade kit model; it included a nice little SATA/USB cable and free copy of Norton Ghost. Even if this drive is for your desktop, the kit can save you time and may prove useful in the future. I got mine through Amazon, and the price was the same for the plain drive or the kit. Have fun!

Is someone in south Florida my "neighbor"? Or is someone in Canada my neighbor, they're certainly closer? Heck, helping a Canadian probably does more for Chicago's regional economy than south Florida.
It's all very silly. The world are our neighbors.

Buy the best product- in this case no one is going to argue the Samsung isn't superior. Only a devout nationalist would feel nationalism is a valid point- and as I pointed out it's hardly one rooted in marketplace realities, or one in the best interest of the consumer. Nationalism, along with race are very outdated, 19th century ideas that are increasingly deprecated.

If you want to create an incentive to have an industry-leading product (Samsung 830), then you buy one.
If you want to make it acceptable to offer a second-place, or worse, product- buy something else. Continue along that path, and that's all you'll have left- you just won't realize it because every company realized innovating wasn't worth it any longer.
