Interesting...on the Dell website, and on FedEx, it said the package was due to arrive on the 1st (yesterday).
I get back in town today, the package hasn't arrived...I check FedEx, and it's due to arrive today (the 2nd) at 3PM.

The last line on the tracker is
May 2, 2006 3:35 PM
Departed FedEx location
MEMPHIS, TN

Service type is "standard overnight," shipped the 30th. Weird! Guess I shouldn't complain, being that shipping is free, but .

I could use some help... I wiped XP Home off and installed Windows 2003 Server. The problem is... the Dell disk and website have ZERO drivers for 2003 for this system. Anyone know which drivers are needed?

Thanks

Wow you are into performance - actually usually people are trying to order the servers without os and then install xp - this is quite a reversal

Anyhow - I would check the dell server drivers for the sc 430 or sc 830 models, they are usually the same hardware platform. As for the cards installed, if 2003 drivers are unavailable, usually the codebase for 2003 and xp is quite similar and you should be able to use the xp driver

Almost silent even with the case open. CD-ROM makes some noise but only in use. I have a WD Raptor 150 in mine, it's the only thing I even hear coming from that case.

I found some drivers I thought might work and then tried to burn a disk... only to find that the burner in my laptop isn't working now.

After all of that, I decided to just wipe 2003 and put XP pro on the Dell. I may wipe that and put 2003 in six months when there is (maybe) easier access to drivers. Some of the drivers on the Dell cd created 2003 sub-directories when extracting during my setup of XP Pro so maybe some of them will work but the menu on the CD is buggy.

I don't NEED 2003, it just makes it easier for me to test my .NET websites in IIS6. I test in IIS5 when I develop on my laptop that is running XP Pro. There are some big differences between IIS6 and IIS5 that need to be considered for a project I'm working on.

Mine got here yesterday and I ended up having to order the PSU. My 7900gt that I got requires 2 molex connectors to be plugged into it and there was only one free one, so I had to. Plus I want to put a dvd burner in there for a 2nd drive and another harddrive.

You're going to have to repalce the Dell cable with a 2 device ATA cable. Also, you're going to need mounting brackets to put it in the 5" bay. There is one extra molex connector right by the DVD drive.

Thanks for the info, BigJ. Methinks the simplest way to do this is to get an external enclosure and hook it up to one of the USB ports.

The screen is nice and lovely, I have an 1800fp as well and the 9700gt that I bought has dual DVI so I can't wait to go put the vid card in and test that out. My Power Supply came today so I'm gonna go fvck around with that and install it.

Only thing about the monitor, I lowered it and now the button in the back is stuck so I can't raise it. Anyone else have this problem and know how to get the button to unstick?

Hey does it matter that the 2gb ram that everyone has been talking about at newegg is 667mhz and the ram that comes with the Dell is 533mhz. I ordered mine with just the 2X256. Should I order the newegg ram and just use the 2gb or should I use the 2gb along with the 512? Thanks sorry for the newbie question.

Mine finally came...apparently "overnight" means "3-day". Hey, it's free

I have a question for you guys, though. The monitor is nice and big, with no dead pixels and very minimal backlight bleeding...but it seems to have some banding. In your professional opinions...is this banding "too much"?

Sorry about the pics...crappy camera, low light.

Next time you load 2003 server try using the Windows 2000 drivers. http://support.dell.com/support/downloa...D=DIMENSION%205150/E510&os=WNT5&osl=EN

I doubt if Dell will ever provide 2003 server drivers for this Dimension model. They don't want to support people running these desktops as servers.

You might want to consider adding a second HD and setup a dual boot between WinXP and 2003 server. Check out this deal on a WD 160Gb SATA HD for $50 + shipping.

man..I wish i can connect through the internet with the other comp =/. but the LCD is sweet man, I didn't expect the 20" to be a bit larger than I thought it would be. Also, i'm glad there were no dead pixels (dances).

time for upgrade...7900gt, 2 gigs ram, tv tuner, and wireless pci card !! here I come

Get a good grip on it (the base) and press harder.

Got mine yesterday... God, the monitor is SOOO sexy. I was worried that there might be dead pixels, but thank God there weren't any.

Anyway, how do you see who actually produced the monitor? I know on the 1907FP monitor you can hold the menu and + button, turn the monitor on, and it'll give you access to the OSD menu that has some info that you normally wouldn't be able to see...

Is there anything like that for this monitor? I tried the menu and + button thing, but didn't notice any un-hidden menu options...

Can't wait to get mine. I didn't get in on the 5% discount code, but hey I can't complain. Under $650 with tax and everything. Decided I am going to go ahead and order 2GB of ram and 7600GT Video Card It should end up being a great system for under $1000.

As far as stability, the card has been running Oblivion for the last hour without a single hiccup.

So that puts to bed the conjecture about the Dell psu not being able to handle the higher end cards...

Holy crap, that's a 113W card. That puts to rest any doubts about what I'll be able to do with mine...
