$300 was what I was thinking of asking for both together. Parting out requires more effort and time.

If I do get this Dell (still unsure), I may build a computer from the guts of the Dell using my case and power supply.
Keep in mind that this Dell uses the newer BTX motherboard form factor and not ATX so you would not be able to use your old case.

Ah, Excellent point.

I was also considering putting the 80 GB drive from Dell into the computer I sell and keeping my 200GB drive.... but then I realized that my old motherboard does not have connections for SATA drives.

We'll see what happens when I get it. I may have to part things out.

I need a wireless card. Would it be better to buy a pci/usb wireless reciever, or should I go with the dell installed one?

Go with a USB with an external antenna.

Those get much better signal.

Will do. I'm ordering now, and plan to throw in a gig of ram and a 7800 GT or an X1800, not sure yet.

Now I just have to determine whether I should keep the monitor, or sell it and get a cheaper 19 inch. Decisions decisions.

I have one on order but wanted a better videocard. I learned that the 5150 has a "305w continuous output" power supply. From what I understand, consumer PS's are rated at their "peak" output, not "continuous" output. Also, the 2-12v rails are rated at 18 amps; comments I've read claim that even some 400w PS's aren't rated this high. Anyway, from what I've been able to find, it seems that this power supply should support some of the better videocards, other than maybe the high end.

Since Dell sells the 5150 with an X600 option (about 58w) which is close to the power draw of the 6600GT (about 65w), I decided to buy a 6600GT 256mb to drive the 2007. Also, no extra power plug is needed.

The way Dell rates their PSUs is very misleading. I did some research and found that people were running 7800/7900 GTs on the 305w PSU so they are very strong. I bought an E510 earlier this month and am running a 7600GT.

Actually, what Dell does is give you the average rating. What many other manufacturers do is list the peak rating. It's not so much that Dell is strong, but others are weak.

Yup. Tried upping the clock/fsb/ram speeds a little bit, and checked the clocks box. No change. Must be locked on the Dell.

dunno what to decide =/

well I have extra 2 x 512 mb pqi DDR 400 sticks hanging around (and can OC to 230 mhz easily with no tweaks)

and a 6600 AGP collecting dust...

might differentiate the cost @_@?

Dude bear in mind this is a PCI-E board not AGP.

I think you misread my statement, I was wondering how much my "left over parts" can be sold to "differentiate the cost"

Received mine today. Typing this on the 2007FP right now. It's beautiful.

Now I've just got to figure out what I want to do with the 5150....

Heheh...mines in-transit, but I'm going the other way round...I'm gonna be turning the monitor around, as I'm hooking the 5150 up to my TV.

Ordered one today, I was a bit late on the deal but I still got it all for $640 shipped

Can't wait to use it all. Nice cheap extra computer though I may end up selling off the 5150 with some extras tossed in. All depends on how well it handles WoW and DV editing. Gonna install 2GB of ram and a 7900GT.

Yeah, SUPER fast. I ordered it on the 25th, in the early morning (i.e. late on the 24th). It shipped the same day, and I got it today, on the 27th. I was expecting it to not take very long since I live in Fort Worth, TX; but it shipped from Nashville, TN, not Austin like I was expecting. Oh well, it still got here really fast.

Mine is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I'm not sure if I want to sell the 5150 or keep it and sell part out one of my other computers.

Well I just ordered one along with 2gb of ram and a 7900gt.

<-- laptop (and only computer to my name) died on me about an hour ago, so I'm glad I found this.

If by some wack chance the psu won't run the vidcard and memory and if i put another hd in it, all i have to do is replace the psu huh? It is not in some Dell form factor weird I dunno bs, just throw a 400w one in there and have at it? Do I run the risk of fvcking up my vidcard if the psu in it already can't handle it, or will it simply not have enough juice and shut down if there is issues?

For those of you buying the set and selling either just the PC or just the monitor on eBay, are you able to transfer the warranty of only one or the other to the eBay winner or can you only transfer the warranty of everything at once?

Sorry, I'm new at this kind of thing. Thanks,

CK

Hmmm...it's a strictly BTX case, so I would guess that you would need a BTX-shaped PSU, unless you transplant it to a new case.

There's a 5% off $500+ code out there, I ended up getting this system for $598 shipped (this includes tax). 1000 uses, exp 5/3, get it quick! PM if you need it.

Don't know if it's only me, but my experiences with Dell SB is that they make it incredibly difficult to cancel an order. Might be worth it to try though- even though they wouldn't let me cancel my $400 video card order (hadn't shipped, but it was already "in processing -- they said I could refuse shipment, but we all know how much time there is between delivery, rejection, approval, then refund), they gave me a $50 sb coupon for my troubles -- which I later used to get a 2 gb cruzer titanium for 20 bucks. Kind of wish I saved it for this deal ($550 shipped would be sick), but no worries.

Well it is happy mother's day for my Mom. She's needed a new computer system for some time now. Just the monitor alone is worth it for her since her eyesight isn't the best in the world.

I applied the 5% off cupon with no problems, so it is still workign as of 3:00 PM EST 28 April 06.

Thank you, OP. I was going to bite the bullet and buy her a nice monitor and build her a new system. This saved me the work.

I called and convinced the guy to let me apply the coupon retroactively. Just letting you guys know. They will refund it directly onto the credit card. I would go ahead and give it a try. I did have to talk him into it. Apparently, their policy is they will pricematch if the difference is over 50 bucks. Which doesn't make too much sense. They should make an exception for you. They did for me.

This will make a pretty nice office PC. Especially with the 5% off. Nonetheless, I think everyone should be reminded of how annoying if not terrible Dell's service really is. They drive me crazy. I hope nobody is buying this thing for the service or warranty.
