Unless the $100 mail-in rebate appears on the packing slip you will NOT get it.

I'm guessing this will turn out to be $599 rather than $499 AR. Unless Dell recently yanked the $100 MIR (which has happened in the past).

If you follow all the rules, I have received EVERY SINGLE rebate ever submitted to Dell. They usually arrive after 8 weeks like clock work, no muss and no fuss.

Two different 8400 deals are out there. To get the rebate just go through the outrageous deals link to get to the 8400 config with rebate. The options are a little different so make sure you verify you are getting the optin you want. The $300 coupon is not supposed to work with outrageous deals but it does for now.

yea, i figured that out, i need the dvdburner and dont like the mail in rebate hassle so i guess ill keep the system i ordered and sell my old 4600..

what do you think i can get for a dell 4600 p4 2.53,cdr/dvdrw2.3,640meg of pc2700,40gig hd.and a ti4600? or should i sell the ti4600 seperate and put in a old ati agp card that came in the dell origanly?

My Recommendations

If you go for the Outrageous Deals system, upgrade the hard drive to 80GB for $20, or 160GB w/ NCQ for $60. Both are worth the money considering the premium that SATA drives carry right now, and the 160GB is almost certainly a Seagate. Go for either the free DVD-ROM or free CD-ROM/CD-RW.

If you go for the non-Outrageous Deals system, on top of the hard drive upgrade mentioned above, do the $29 upgrade for MS Office Basic. Even if you don't need Office, you can eBay the software for $100, netting you $70 off the system cost. Make sure to add the free DVDRW.

I've done the cost analysis for both systems, and they both come out around the same once you either a)get your $100 rebate or b)eBay MS Office Basic.

the guys at fatwallet are saying that the 533 ram wont make a differance as the fsb is 800 and the ddr400x2=800 so the ram upgrade is usless....... is that true ? i trust the judgment of the antechies over the fatwallet non tech crowd.
