Hi guys,

Could you tell me what a DIMM Riser is and where can i get it? I need it for my motherboard.

Thanks in advance,

No, there are no DIMM risers. DIMM risers are not practical due to their size and height. Secondly, there are power issues and RAS line issues with such devices.

ASUS used to make one, but this was designed for use with i820 RDRAM motherboards with an MTH on the riser.

What type of motherboard do you have? If you do not have enough slots, you should consider selling your smaller DIMMs and replacing them with a single larger DIMM.

Thanks alot for your response, Andy.

My motherboard is an Asus P3C-E. I bought it at a computer swapmeet only to find out later that it only supports RDRAM. I thought it was the same as a P3C2000 which is also an Intel 820 chipset but does support SDRAM. I've just been to the user review section from another site and saw a post from some guy who aslo has the same board. He said he didn't use RDRAM but instead used 193 MB of memory with DIMM Riser. I have no idea what he was talking about, hence the post here. I bought this motherboard to upgrade my sister's comp so, needless to say, i'm on a very tight budget and can't afford RDRAM at the moment. As it looks right now, i might have to sell the board and look for something else. If you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to throw it my way.

Thanks again,

Edit for spelling

Ah....so you ARE after the ASUS DIMM riser for the P3C-E. ASUS doesn't make those anymore because of the issues with the MTH and the subsequent recall.

I think you would be better off selling this board and buying an ASUS CUSL2 or CUSL2-C instead. This board is based on the i815E/P chipset with native support for SDRAM.

Using SDRAM through the MTH on the RDRAM based P3C-E board incurs a big performance hit, so it's not really worth it.

Take it from Andy, he knows his stuff... anyway, someone tried to exchange one of those recently, Asus wouldn't take it back.. I think you can only sell the Mobo.. not sure who would take it.. rambus system..
