So this is basically the only problem I consistently have with computers. I've got two desktops right now (one with WinXP and the other with Win2k) and I'm trying to connect them directly with a cable through the LPT1 printer ports. Anyway, so I set up the Win2k computer as a guest and the other as a host and set them both to communicate through the printer ports, connect the parallel cable and try it but it doesn't work out...says that the host computer doesn't respond.
So now I'm wondering whether I need a null-modem cable to go through the serial ports (I'd much rather go parallel-port style but whatever I guess...just don't wanna take a day to transfer a CD's worth of data). I'm pretty sure the ports all work (I've used them regularly) and the cable also works, but it's just a male-male parallel cable, nothing special. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions as far as direct connections go and what I should do? Maybe like some site that explains the stuff better than the Microsoft help stuff?
