Directional Antenna

Siemens sells directional antennas at CC for $39. They are suppose to extend the range of the router. The problem is with routers that have two antennas. Mine has two, so does this mean that I will need two directional antennas? Has anybody used such a thing for their system?

The best thing to do when using a directional would be to disable one of the posts. That may not be possible. Depends on your AP's config pages if it has the ability to turn off diversity. Assuming their even broadcasting as diversity antennas. If not then you will still probably be ok using the one directional and the standard, default dipole. Assuming you still want 360 degree connectivity to wireless clients that would be the best solution. Two directionals would not be a good choice in most circumstances. What AP do you have?

Siemens SpeedStream 2623 Wireless Router. Has two antennas but there's really no description of their function.

I think they sell it for the SpeedStream 2624.

The SpeedStream 2623 does not seem to have a removable Antenna.

Makes sense since I can't seem to get the thing off the router. I will try the other end by getting a wireless card with a removable antenna and hooking the directional there.

FYI Funny thing, in another thread, there's a link to a web site that sells directional antennas and network kits. There's a model there that looks exactly like my antenna with the same specs. I think the the Seimens is a rebadge but $10 cheaper at circuit city.

I doubt that any of the Entry Level Wireless Hardware manufactures design and build their own Antennae

Most of the Antennas are OEM. Most Manufactures sells them with a Big Profit margin.
