DirectTV new GUI--did you get yours?

It was pretty snappy before the update. Just a few seconds for a transition. It has something to do with the update.

I just used a stopwatch to time it 3 times (from a channel, hit 'List', till screen was up and usable):

Those are definitely WAY faster than it was a couple days ago, but still obviously excessive.

hmm, that gotta suck, looking at 2 seconds or so here. I don't have that reciever you have though.

Unplug for thirty seconds, then plug it back in.

If that fails, clear the nvram. Go to channel 1. Once it has fully loaded, push Red, Red, Blue, Blue, Yellow, Green. You should see a message about nvram being cleared.

So, slightly better, but really still crappy as hell. If you look on their forums you'll see a lot of people having this issue so it's not that strange.

Oo, nice. Loooooooong overdue. Was soooo friggin slow before. Still thinking about switching to Dish though. Paying $110 a month for DirecTV, getting way overcharged. Plus their customer service people are bad.

I'm not scheduled to get the update until 1/19. I'm not under contract and want to upgrade to the new HR-34 DVR with 5 tuners (record up to 5 programs at once), 1TB hard drive and whole home watch any show in any room deal.

New customers are already getting the new DVR's but there not available to existing customers until Feb. 9 ish.

Is there a way to force a download of the software for the new guide?

The price we pay for Dish and DirecTV should allow them to actually design set-top boxes with some CPU power in them. They seriously cut corners in the most f***ing ridiculous ways.

This will only work on Fri & Sat after midnight EST. Otherwise, you'll just get the latest SD update. That's actually the CE window that lets you download the latest update, whether it's gone public or not. There's always a chance that your receiver ends up with a beta release that may or may not have bugs. On the flip side, you'll always have the absolute latest software release.

you can force a software download but it will not be the HD GUI version.

I've been on it for 2 months.... just push it to your receiver via the CE release program usually every Friday and Saturday night the window for the CE release....

I know a guy who at least two days back got this, but I've not received it yet (receiver is hooked up to internet). I figured phased approach but see nothing about that on the directv site.

Have you received your updated interface?

I got mine and it looks awesome. Direct TV impresses me with every passing month. I doubt I will ever switch to another provider.
