The fact is that they are getting rid of those HD TiVos because DTV is changing the type of HD signal at the beginning of next year and guess what... Your TiVo won't work anymore.

That's why I'm happy it's a lease type deal. Once it no longer works, they upgrade to the new receivers for free.

Besides, why are you hating? If you don't like the deal, fine. No need to be an ass.

So does this only work if you're nearing the end of your contract with DTV?

I just started my DTV contract in September, but I'd love to get my bill lowered. I just figure that if I call they're going to say "Fine, you can pay for cable, too, but you're still on the hook with us for another 9 months."

Amazingly this opportunity is still out there. Cut your Directv bill by at least $15/mo. DTV is sucking hindtit on signups now vs cable so they have a sharp pencil to keep you on there system. While The Directv retentions direct phone number has changed from the original 800-824-9081; work your way through their system to get to retentions for the best deal.

This seems like a good deal if you're past your initial signup agreement. My only concern is regarding the changes making the HD Tivo unit obsolete soon. I'd hate to agree to another 2 year commitment, only to find out that in January my HD tivo no longer works and that I need to spend a bunch of money on a new receiver.

What's the scoop on that? How do you make sure you won't be forced to shell out a bunch of $$ later on to continue your service?
