I just purchased the DirecTV HD package for my 50" LCD HDTV 1080i TV. I spoke with a couple of reps for DirecTV about the new 120 channels they are releasing, and one said this month, one said next month, and another said towards the end of the year.

So what gives? Whats the latest? I would like to have Versus (VS.) HD in time for the hockey season, as well as FSN. What do you guys think?

They are supposed to be done with testing of the new satellite in September so likely sometime after that. This is a good source to find out what the latest info/rumours are.

Do it....even the regular digital channels are a lot clearer than cable.

Time to put my cable service to rest. I might have to keep my cable internet service though, unless DirectTV has something to offer.

I really wouldn't mind switching back to DirecTV, especially after seeing that list....but will they still broadcast their crappy HD-Lite? When I had them 2-3 years ago, they down-rezzed all their HD channels, and made them look like crap. I got tired of paying for channels that were advertised as HD, but weren't.

They are out of the ISP business, keep the cable modem.

Plus satellite ISP is stupid....

I stuck with TW (even though I damn them to hell) for my cable modem.

Has DirecTV changed their equipment policy yet? I was with them for a LONG time but then I bought a HDTV in 2005. They wanted me to spend a buttload of money up front to purchase my own DVR/HD box. So, reluctantly, I switched to cable which provides me with free equipment. I'd love to go back to satellite but I was just curious that the scoop was on equipment.

DirecTV HD receiver is free

The DVR costs like $100 ($200 - $100 MIR).

Your name sure does proceed you. You must know EVERYONE here and know that they do not work for DirecTV. Wow.....how do you do it?

Why is AT filled with such nice people these days?

Yep. And you usually can get the HD DVR for free if you harass DirecTV enough (ie talk to the right rep).

Dish better offer more as well, I really like that Rave HD station but it needs more content.

Since February 2006 I have gotten 1 HD Receiver along with a new 5 LNB dish installed, an HD DVR, and one of their new SD DVRs at no charge. I did have to make the 2 year commit but I have been with DirecTV since 1997 so that was not a deal breaker for me.

Their POS replacement for the TIVO box. The interface is identical to the HD DVR and both suck in comparison to TIVO IMHO. Fortunately I still have my DirecTIVO box as well, we got the other one since it was free and the ancient Sony SAT B2 we had up in the bedroom was really beginning to show its age. I keep the TIVO unit hooked up to the same TV as the HD DVR and use it to record anything that is not HD.

Sounds like it's time to say goodbye to my Directivo HD box. Can someone tell me how many hours their new HD DVR records in HD? I will miss my Directivo as it could record over 70 hours in HD since I added another hard drive to it.

Anyone know a Directtv rep that can hook those switching from cable up?

That HD channel list has now made my mind up.
