I'm so mad at Directv right now I can't see straight! First of all Sunday Ticket BLOWS! At least half the games I wanted to watch last year were blacked out. Oh, sure I could have watched them on local stations, If they had them then! Even now my local stations are almost unwatchable. Remeber trying to get a signal with rabbit ears back in the day? Yeah, it's that bad. 100% digital my A$$! AND they would not let me cancel.

NOW they are auto charging me for sunday RIPOFF again! I almost thought about calling in for a discount, untill I got my bill with the ST carges. Looks like I'm back to cable, again.

my year contract is going to be up soon and i am looking for an HDTV box and some kind of deal on sunday ticket and the college football pack

ha ha ha!!!!
GOOD ONE...free NFL... I doubt highly i heard they are giving some sort of discount but, more like $20/30 off NFL for new subscribers....

I've read Directv HDTV is fairly average(HDlite)...
So i'm getting HDTV from Dish they give you equiptment for free(year commiitment with 6 months free HDTV(including HBO/Snowtime for 3 months))...
Not $200 for the directv non dvr Hdtv receiver ...what a joke....

I did get $10 off for the next 6 months though...and I have NFL ticket...

I switched my Directv to the base Spanish package so at least with the discount i'll only have to pay $19 a month to watch my $200 worth of NFL games....
what a deal huh??...Thanks directv...

I

wasn't looking for FREE but $240 for sunday ticket is outrageous

$99 for ESPN gameplan is a great price and maybe like $250-270 for both is what i'm looking for guess they

like in canada it is $170 (not sure if that is CDN or not but i'm assuming it is)

i guess that is the price they can charge because DirecTV has a monopoly in the US

last time I called I got:

$20 off/month for 6 months
free tri-lnb dish
free 4x8 multiswitch
free installation
free access card
and then got a free tivo

...but we have every channel they offer, and they seem to be a little kinder to those who have the bigger packages...

How are you guys getting these deals? I called and said I was thinking about swithing to cable since it's cheaper and the rep said "Yeah, cable is normally cheaper". That was pretty much the entire conversation. WTF? Is it because I still have a few months left on my contract?

Just called. My bill was $67.97/month, have basic, plus package, Tivo, HBO and 2 receivers. Called and told them i got a promo for Comcast for $14.99 above what im paying now, which is $9.77, only have antennae service (so i still get cable on every tv in house, and it keeps my internet bill down to $29.99, thanx to another thread here). Told them i hardly watch any tv, HBO is gonna be dead till Sopranos or Deadwood comes back on, and I have never ordered a PPV movie. After a little haggling, the CSR said sh would drop it $10/month, add Showtime free for 6 months, plus i dropped my 2nd receiver, never use it anyways. So now im down to $52.97/month. Better than nothing. I could've pushed a little harder but the girl was not really budging. Next time ill push harder or tell them to turn it off immediately.

MONOPOLY is the wrong word here. That word seems to be thrown around too much lately. DirecTV has an EXCLUSIVE agreement with the NFL to broadcast ALL the games. They had to pay up the a$$ for that package. If you want to blame anyone, try the NFL. They coulda opened up the package to other providers but they didnt.

I disagree, DirecTv has had the Sunday Ticket since DirecTV went live. DirecTV started out charging $99 for the entire season. Now it is 2.5X that price and if you want to watch them in HD it is another $49 (early bird) this year.

I have been a DTV customer for years, and for the longest time they were absolutely the best value out there, within the past couple of years DTV has been changing there pricing. It certainly has me looking around to see what the competition is doing.

I love the NFL package but I am starting to wonder if it is really worth it considering all the coverage the NFL has now. It certainly is not the NFL of my youth where you got two games on Sunday and one on Monday night. Even without the Sunday ticket there are plenty of games available to watch between ESPN and the locals.

Oh and for the guy gawking at free Sunday Ticket, it can happen, it happens every year for our troops. The NFL has waived the fee for Sunday Ticket every year that I can remember for MWR's.

The best thing to do is to start the conversation by asking how much it will cost you to get out of your current contract. If you only have 2 or 3 months to go, the answer wil probably be zero. The rep should ask you why and start offering concessions. If he/she doesn't, call RETENTION (1-800-600-8977). The whole purpose of that department is to induce subscribers not to cancel and they have lots of options to offer.

A friend called the other day and Retentions is still cutting good deals at Directv. He got $15 off on regular $54.95 service with no renewal of contract.

Every year I renegotiate my contract for another year and threaten to switch to dish even though I am not going to switch.

10$ off a month for 6 months + 6 mo of a premium movie channel Free is what I get every time. Not even a hassle.

Just tell them your thinking of switching and if they dont give you something good then tell them your not convinced and they up the ante.

You are under no obligation to cancel! If you do not like the deal they offer you then just say you need more time to think about it. From the experience of others. they always affer you a deal!

Yes that's the number. I didn't threaten to quit. I simply said I was thinking about switching to Dish because of their offer right now. Then DTV offered me what I typed above.

How da heck do you guys get these deals?

They offered me a lousy $5 off for 6 mo. and that was it! :|

Anyone can get a Free DVR, BUT they need to EXTEND their contract to 24 months! :|

I'm going with Comcast to try them out.

I emailed them (on their site) and said I was thinking of going with DISH...that's all.
Got two calls within 24-hrs from retention. Called them back after the second call
and they wanted to talk about the email. They offered me $10/mo off for one-year,
6-months of either HBO/MAX/Showtime free and STARZ for $2.00/mo for 6-months.

I took it

So I'll save $120 + ($24x6) $84 for the premium channels for a total of $204.
Not bad. Now paying only $47.55/mo compared to $74.55 if no credit and charges
for the two prems.

I think it depends upon who you get on the phone at retention, you can tell almost
immediately by the tone and enthusiasm. I got a guy high on coffee or something
and he kept adding stuff, even wanted to offer me another TiVo R15 for free (but the
two year commitment stopped me).

I have TOTAL CHOICE plan so that's probably why they could only offer me $5 off per month since it's the lowest plan available. What plan did you have?

I'm thinking about locking it in for 2 years and get the free DVR...but 2 years is such a long time!

But I totally agree, it depends on the rep. Some are total d!c1<s while others are more willing to please so keep calling back might help you get a better deal.
