Directv Total Choice with local channels is 38.99 per month (I've had it for a while). Just noticed that now Total Choice Plus is only $1 more per month. It's a handful of extra channels for those of you (like myself) that don't subscribe the the full blown premium service.

Expert Satellite was fine by me. I placed an order for 3-receiver triple LNB system 2+ months ago. It came within 7 business days. The guy came by and set up the system. I had DirectTv up and running within 14 days of my online order.

About the free installation, you get what you paid for. The guy came by & perform a barebone set up. They re-use my old cable TV wiring so that they can cut cost. In order words, they did a CHEAP job because they get paid by the job and not by the hour.

I was looking at this a couple days ago, it looked like to me the extra channels it gave you were only worth about a dollar! I think I'm staying with the regular package. I didn't see any of the new channels that were very good.

I just purchased a new home.. I wonder how the intall job process would be. I have coaxials in every room.. and the master bedroom has the master control that has the input from outsied and pushes the signal to all the rooms. I wonder if I can use that.. hmm

I Think for sattalite you need RG6 or better coax cable. other wise you will have too much signal loss on a long run.

If its RG-58 Coax Cable I would put new wire in and avoid problems.

My brother bought a new condo recently and it was prewired like yours with RG6. Check the cable and look for markings.

I have Directv but go through Pegasus and I just called about the $1 upgrade. No deal but it is available for an extra $12/mon. Said I don't think so. So much for Pegasus.

As long and the installers can get the coax runs from the dish mounting location to the homerun panel in your bedroom they can distribute the satellite signal to each room of your house. Now for you to be able to watch different channels in each room of your house you will need a receiver for each room.

Let me know if you have any further questions or if you want more specifics of satellite installations email me: magicdeals@bellsouth.net

Sure it's legit, I got mine installed last week! I got the 2 room, Triple-LNB, and the DirecTivo deal. I am in San Jose, CA area, the installers (from DigiCom) was awesome. Btw, the "free installation" is usually run-of-the-mill, i.e. mount dish on your wall, 100+ feet of cables, connect your equipments. My crawl-space/condo-special-cable-needs cost about $100. But overall, I am pleased with the install (on-time, and professional).

Cool - thanks for the info.. I appreciate it! Yes, I do have RG6 in the homerun panel in my master bedroom closet. I saw there is one input, then there are 8 coax's that can plug into a plate to send the signal out. However, I only have a total of 7.. I don't have a wall plate for the family room - I was hoping a signal can be sent there as well..

So would the dish need to go directly to the master bdroom closet or would it just go feed from outside where the cable would come in? I noticed the in is around the same place where the fone lines come in as well..

I can post some pics if u guys want - thanks!!

Shoot me an email with some pics and I will try to help you out if I can. Check out my other thread were I gave some very basic info on running additional wiring in your existing home.

[referral link deleted by AnandTech Moderator]

The preferable method is to run one line of RG6 from home run to your new room. Run all coax lines from Satellite to Home Run panel and distribute from there. It's actually not hard to do if you have all of the tools and the cabling around the house. Otherwise it may be cheaper to just pay the installers some money to run you an extra line.

I believe I have RG6, it's a new home. Here's the link.. check it out, this is how it looks. Does that mean the dish wire would only go to my master bdroom closet or would it go to the side of the house which then has a coax that would bring it into the closet, and then out to all the rooms? I have one 'IN' I noticed and the rest go out to the other rooms.

Also, I dont have it in one of my rooms (first room when coming in the door) - how hard would the install be to have it for this room and is this part of the setup?

Definitely, i thikn it would be a LOT cleaner too.. but my home run panel is in the bedroom upstairs. The room is downstairs near the front door.. so it's quite a distance and I'm not familiar with fishing and pushing wire through.. I posted a pic on my last msg, can you check that out and let mek now what you think? Thanks again!
