dx 11 was not used on very many games because of the limitations of consoles. wish it was used more. most just use dx 9. the witcher 2 and skyrim were promoted by the developers as being developed for dx 11 but they never were.

wondering how windows 9 and dx 12 will turn out. honestly wish more people would use open gl. hope steam os makes linux more successful

When did CDProjektRed and Bethesda ever claim that Witcher 2 and Skyrim, respectively, were developed for DirectX 11? I recall CDProjektRed in particular being pretty transparent that they weren't making the game for DirectX 11.

Mantle died today

And DX12 is supported by all vendors, even on ARM. And hardware is ready.

DX12 started its life around 4 years ago. Might also explain why even Fermi supports it.

Bethesda cant even make a game that doesnt use ancient (x87) code on it and people claim their games were developed for DX11? Riiiight.

PD: I have learned one thing today: PR slides done by MS are not PR slides, but some dogmatic and inrefutable fact. Heh, who would have guessed.

ShintaiDK, if you are going start an AMD vs Intel and Nvidia flamefest I would stop it right now before I start handing out infractions. Let's keep it civil and not post inflammatory comments such as "Mantle is dead".

2 years is an eternity in the tech biz. This DX12 stuff is all damage control when you think about it, AMD really rocked the boat with Mantle and now Nvidia and MS are scrambling so they don't have the appearance of being left behind.

But this is what we know, Mantle is being picked up by more and more devs, DX12 is some nice slides and marketing fluff. Ideally Mantle will get rolled into DX12 but that is a tricky bit of business.

I hope mantle gets used by all because it has potential and I don't really like proprietary software that has to be paid to use (with the assumption they are paying the studios to use mantle, I'm not even sure if they are?). It would have amazing potential if all the major hardware manufacturers pick up on it. The only reason I can see it being AMD only is just to take a page from the competitor's handbook but that doesn't really benefit me when I want to buy my next card based on $/performance if the supported features are proprietary.

If, like ShintaiDK said DX12 started 4year ago and with the man-power MS has, I don't get why it still needs 2years to finish.

6year dev in total is normally what a new Windows version needs, but an API?
