Directx 8.1b for XP?

Is there DX 8.1b for XP? Read to upgrade to "B" to solve crashes in ut2003

From what I can tell on MS's site, the only way to get DX8.1b for XP is to install SP1. I did that, but UT2k3 still crashes for me . Maybe you'll have better luck.

I think there's a link to get it from MS's website for XP without upgrading to SP1 but I don't remember it. Either way, I'm pretty sure it will be bundled with UT 2k3 in the full version...

well I upgraded to sp1 and it still says my directx version is 8.1a. Go figure. UT2k3 still crashes. Stupid, Stupid.

What version should dxdiag report if you if have 8.1b installed? I read it shuold say Directx 8.1b 4.08.01.0901 and for directx 8.1a 4.08.01.0810

I did an integrated setup of XP SP1 and DX is still 0810. My 2000 with DX 8.1b upgraded is 0901.

Welp, about half the DX files' creation dates coincide with SP1's (end of Aug) so SP1 does seem to be the source for the latest and greatest it is just that the version number is not updated for some reason as with 2000.

How can you tell which version of directX you have? nevermind found it

I just downloaded the XP service pack. Does that contain DirectX8.1b or do you instal the service pack then directX afterwards?

My directX says that it is version 810. This is after I installed the new service pack. Is this right? Should I do something else?

I downloaded SP1 for XP and UT2003 says I don't have 8.1b.

Is MS coming out with another update?

This is rediculous!

Of course, nothing on MS site.
