On the plus side it actually created a restore point for me when I installed it, and it restored back to DX 8.1 just fine.

Hi SeekingTao,
If your interested,
Here are some things i noticed since my download of Dx9:

1.the shading seems darker.
2.My fonts sometime part of a letter will seem to flicker.
3.Playing in midtown madness the street lines flicker,
4.After playing for 20 min in dungeon siege the screen gets too dark around the edges, almost black
5.in DS the water seems more real, and the flames look better.( fyi Mr.Spy i exparamented both before i had sugar loaded coffee and after , I'm refuring to your placebo theory . just teasing ; )

i suppose now I'll have to go buy a new card that's designed for Dx9....

Thanks for the update Ann (and everyone else). Looks like I am going to avoid DX9 until I get my GeForce FX.

3D Mark 2001SE is only a Direct X 8.1 benchmark, it will not show up any improvements in DX9 enabled machines. We need a programe that makes use of DX9 features to see any improvements in looks or fps.

I make it a habit of not installing beta stuff from Microsoft. I'll leave it for someone else to be the lab rat.

I don't want to mess up how stable my system is running.

Any word on XP I installed it on XP Home and it fried it. Had to do a checkpoint restore.
