not i i did some reading on it and you can't uninstall it. only way to get it off your box is to restore from a restore point. i'll wait until it ages a bit after general release.

Awesome, I'd really like to see how well it compares to 8.1

I know there is a list of new features somewhere, anyone got a link?

And stability, extra performance would be nice but I'm not willing to give up stability for a fractional increase in speed.

Heck, I can't get it to download... I download the LOADER, run it, and then click through the options: then it times out and says it can't be downloaded at this time, to check my network settings...

I have NO problems downloading anything else, even from Microsoft.

Anyone else getting this problem?

I didnt have any problems downloading it.

EDIT: I take that back, I tried to install it and the installer connects and downloads another 8.9 MB from Microsoft, and I have problems with that.

Uninstalling it is very easy, just go to this page & get DirectX Eradicator

that page says it will only work with 8.1 or earlier, I wonder how differant 9 is (from an install standpoint).

Interesting. Could you please elaborate? And I looked at your system rig profile, if it is up to date then you have a non DX9 video card (as do I). I am very curious as to how DX9 improved the looks of Dungeon Siege. I still haven't installed it myself so I don't know if it will help my GF4 at all. Thanks for any info you can give us.

Hi you all,
ok ,spyordie007, ""it looked sooo cool!!!" yes it dose mean it looked better then 8.1, the water looks like its moving now, the flames look better now. but it dosn't look as good as a friends Visiontek Ti4600.

Hi SeekingTao, yes my profiles up to date , i 'll let you know if anything happens that seems related,
Ann

I installed it tonight on my wifes drive , but haven't benched it. No problems, but only playing UT2k3 at the moment. Works fine with that game on this system. Your mileage may vary.

I didn't notice any great improvements, but as said, I haven't benched it either.

What OS and graphics adapter are installed on your wife's computer? Thanks.

I think I might just set a restore point and install it tonight (if it will let me download it). Maybe run some benches before and after, if I do I'll make sure to post them.

I said my wifes "drive". She uses Win XP, I normally stay in Linux (with the occasional divert for a game). Video powered by GF4 4200.

I went through all the trouble of setting a restore point and running benches in 3DMark2001 and UT2K3 than went to install it and am still having the problems downloading the components that was mentioned before. I was hoping it was having a problem through my network so I went and hooked the box directly upto my cable modem and tried again from there. Same problem.

Anyone know of another place I can download this?

Okay here we go. To start off I want to make sure everyone knows that this isn?t exactly a *good* comparison, my hardware (as you'll read below) is not DX9 compatible, and neither are the applications I used (not that you could really expect that). I also ran each of the benchmarks only once (as opposed to multiple times and averaging the results).

System Configuration
Windows XP Pro SP-1
Intel P4 2.0A CPU with the FSB clocked at 520Mhz (4x130); for those who dont feel like doing the math it is running at 2.6Ghz
Gainsward GF3 Ti 200 (128MB) GPU; not OCd (using the 40.72 drivers)
256 MB (single DIMM) Samsung PC 2700 DDR, OCd to 346Mhz (stock is 333)
Using the Intel 845G chipset

Bench programs run:
3DMark 2001 SE
UT2K3 @ 800x600 and 1280x960

DX8.1b:
3DMark 2001 SE: 8747
UT2K3 @ 800x600: Flyby 130.54661 Botmatch 94.181404
UT2K3 @ 1280x960: Flyby 62.478893 Botmatch 40.297932

DX9 RC0 Public Beta:
3DMark 2001 SE: 8675
UT2K3 @ 800x600: Flyby 129.830612 Botmatch 84.144531
UT2K3 @ 1280x960: Flyby 62.450775 Botmatch 39.758148

As you can see there was essentially the same results using both DX8.1b and DX9 (using hardware and software that is not designed to take advantage of DX9). I actually did not like the look of DX9 because it made the botmatch benches in UT appear "choppy", that however is just my opinion. For what I've done so far the DX9 beta appears to be stable (no crashes, blue screens etc.) As for xscavenger's "prettiness" effect I would suspect he is experiencing what doctors refer to as the placebo effect.
