Dirt 2 Water Rendering

For some reason the water, well puddles to be more exact, in dirt 2 at times seems to flicker? just very briefly once in a while when i am in maps with it but nothing else seems to be affected (and no other games too). I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this too?

Well it would help to know whether you have a DX11 card and are running it in DX11, 10 or 9 mode. Because the water is rendered differently in DX11.

Using a GTX 285 (stock clocks) with 196.75 drivers. Highest possible in game settings with 8x MSAA enabled; which i believe would be DX9 mode. It also happened with the 196.21 and 195.62 drivers.

It's probably a software issue, try it with a Dx11 card. Are you on Win 7?

Doesn't need to be tried with a DX11 card. That would be pointless since it's rendered differently in DX11.

The problem this person is having is with how it's rendered in DX9 mode.

Are you on XP, Vista or 7?
Have you tried uninstalling all drivers, running driver sweeper, restarting and then installing the drivers again?

In any case, try rendering using DirectX 10 if your OS and game support it.

My guess it the game doesn't like to be rendered using DirectX9.

Nah. It runs fine under DirectX9. Clocked quite a many hours on Dirt 2 under DX9.

Might be an issue that Nvidia didn't fix yet.
BTW, change those drivers ASAP

I'm using windows 7 64 bit. I have tried reinstalling the drivers and driver sweeper but I had the same issue with 195.62 and 196.21 before.

As for getting rid of 196.75, I haven't had an issue with the fan not spinning up at all, and have been monitoring temps while playing so I should be alright with them installed; I'm sure nvidia will be releasing an updated one soon anyways. Has anyone else with a nvidia card tried DIRT2 and seen similar results?

Updated OP with video, now using the 197.15 beta drivers. I kind of am suspecting that it's the card but DIRT 2 is the only game where I get any kind of abnormalities.

I watched the video, and it looks like it flickers, but I think that in reality 1 or 2 light sources appear, which then reflect in the water, and makes it looks like it flickers? Heck it's probably the pyrotechnics in the background.

Hmmm I hope you are right, though I have not heard of anyone else with the issue so far. It seems a bit atrocious.

Just tried playing with AF turned off in the NVIDIA CP but the same flickering occurs .

Quite true...after all...he'd need an ATi card to experience DX11 support.^_^
