F1 2010 is still a month and a half away and they show this. Codemasters are on a role.

I prefer their approach of making separate games for separate genres. Dirt for rally, grid for touring and GT cars. Instead of Gran Turismo's approach of cramming everything into one game.

I think the game should just be called Dirt and not Colin McRae: Dirt

Not a big fan of Dirt 2 with all the stadium races, x games extreme atmosphere, overdone trailer park menu, no rain or snow tracks, usual piss filter codemasters loves to put in their racers..etc. The trailer shows rain and snow so thats nice. I'm sure I'm in the minority but I would prefer it if Dirt 3 was mostly rally point races (just me and the track!), simple menus (Dirt 1 had a nice look to the menus) and varied weather effects. I'm a fan of the earlier Colin McRae games so I'll keep an eye out for this game.

Yeah, my favorites modes in Dirt 2 were rally and trailblazer. There weren't enough rally tracks in Dirt2.

The weather system should be pretty good as their gonna use the one from F1 2010

Also where is my Grid: 2 That's the real game 've been waiting for.

When I play Dirt 2, I only play the world series rally race cause the rally ones are the only fun ones. I really hope there's more in this game.

Why do you think that?
I think it's nice they still have his name in it, since it's been with the Codemasters rally series for a long time, and they've kept it even now he's passed away.

Yeah I hope Dirt 3 has more stages of actual rally.

If there's more people like this don't forget but there's also the official WRC game coming out this Fall.

Here's the trailer.

I think there is going to be more rally in this one as Ken block is taking part in the WRC
This what the Facebook page says

More rally, classic cars, rain, snow, new locations, gymkhana, lots of content to chew on!

Anyway, If they are going to call it Colin McRae: Dirt, they should have like some of the cars he drove or his history or something.

The only time they mention him in Dirt2 is when they give you the Imprezza he drove in the X-Games.

Cool stuff, from the sound of the details there it could be rather promising! I just got Dirt 2 (coupon with vid card) and I'm really enjoying it! Although, some of the rally parts might be easier with a steering wheel. If I played enough racing games I might invest in one.

hate the menu and the trailer gimmick too. and way too many loading screens and the spinning disc crap, probably biproduct of console porting. they made it unnecessarily hard to navigate just to race.

Having played Dirt 2 quite a bit (got it during the Steam sale a couple months ago), I enjoyed it but also felt that there weren't nearly enough tracks. There were really just one or two tracks per location per race type, which admittedly is still a fair number given the number of locations and the different types of races. But if you like one game mode over the others, you'd run out of tracks pretty quickly.

I really do prefer the races where it's you vs. the clock rather than you vs. a bunch of computer racers. That's what Grid is for.

I remember playing Colin McRae '04 years ago on the original Xbox. That game had a huge variety of rally courses. Not just different locations but many stages per location as well, and they had different 4WD and 2WD courses too.

I sorely missed the rally in Dirt 2, but the car handing made up for it. I own every single Colin McRae game. The 1st 2 I had on PlayStation.

I would have to say the worst one was the original dirt. I had tons of cars, but the car handling was just ridiculous. It was still good though.

I think they Listened to what criticisms people had about Dirt 2, and so they are making this one a much bigger game.

Fixed.

RBR is a hardcore rally sim. Dirt has arcade physics. You may as well compare IL-2 Sturmovik to Ace Combat.

Yeah, but I beat the Richard burns challenges on a KEYBOARD .

As for WRC2010, its being made by the same guys who made Evolution GT, Which was the most ridiculous racing game I've ever played and it wasn't very good either. So my hopes aren't that high.

Colin McRae was a dirt racing legend. I think it's great to have his name on the game. Not only does it honor his memory, but it also holds the developers to a pretty high standard when making the game. They wouldn't want to put his name on some shit-pile of a game, so they have to take it up a notch and keep making good games if they put his name on them.

First look by IGN
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/111/1110806p1.html

Gone is the elaborate, extreme sports flavoured front-end of DiRT 2, and in its place is an equally slick yet more minimal menu set, told in stark monochrome with occasional flashes of colour. Beyond it lies a game that's markedly more attractive than its predecessor, no mean feat when that game's sporting some remarkable good looks in the first place. A new lighting model ensures the cars now feel more a part of their environments, while the car models - despite the colossal number of them - are supremely detailed.

Those environments themselves promise to be just as spectacular. The aforementioned additions mean, of course, snow, but that's not the only weather effect being introduced to DiRT 3. Rain's a concern too, as are differing light conditions as some stages take place under the cover of night. Threading the 470 horses that sit under the bonnet of an Audi Quattro S through a pitch black, snow blanketed forest as the headlights bounce beams through the forest promises to be a unique thrill.

dirt 2 is awesome. i wish there were more variety of tracks, but otherwise its hard to complain. even though it has arcade physics, it still feels extremely real when you play it. i love it. nothing better then putting it on a 120" projection system with really loud surround sound. throw it in cockpit view and youre in heaven.

ooo WRC. Yes!

I love true sims, and I like the slightly more approachable games as well.

For PC racing, with current graphical engines and whatnot, NFS: Shift is my racing sim. It takes a little modifying of the parameters, but the hardcore sim engine underneath definitely shines - it's just a little tweaked by default.

Dirt 2 has gotten a lot of play on my PC as well. Really enjoy the game - handling could be a little more sim, but I can tolerate it the way it currently plays.

Definitely going to buy Dirt 3 - love what the different media outlets have said about the game thus far.

And while GT5's all-out approach can be a little annoying, they still do it right imho. Codemasters hasn't really pushed the Sim envelope, straying more to the arcade play though not insanely arcade. GRID, I'm not a huge fan of - not sim enough, not arcade enough. It's a mix that doesn't work for me, not when NFS: Shift completely outshines the game. The in-car view, with my G25 wheel, is just amazing in Shift and makes up for ever-so-slightly-less-than hardcore sim handling.

I'm really hoping Polyphony treated the WRC license as well as I expect. I'd definitely play GT5 a lot, just for the WRC, if it plays well. And then the other racing disciplines in the same package will be great. No NASCAR for me though.
