ooo WRC. Yes!

I love true sims, and I like the slightly more approachable games as well.

For PC racing, with current graphical engines and whatnot, NFS: Shift is my racing sim. It takes a little modifying of the parameters, but the hardcore sim engine underneath definitely shines - it's just a little tweaked by default.

Dirt 2 has gotten a lot of play on my PC as well. Really enjoy the game - handling could be a little more sim, but I can tolerate it the way it currently plays.

Definitely going to buy Dirt 3 - love what the different media outlets have said about the game thus far.

And while GT5's all-out approach can be a little annoying, they still do it right imho. Codemasters hasn't really pushed the Sim envelope, straying more to the arcade play though not insanely arcade. GRID, I'm not a huge fan of - not sim enough, not arcade enough. It's a mix that doesn't work for me, not when NFS: Shift completely outshines the game. The in-car view, with my G25 wheel, is just amazing in Shift and makes up for ever-so-slightly-less-than hardcore sim handling.

I'm really hoping Polyphony treated the WRC license as well as I expect. I'd definitely play GT5 a lot, just for the WRC, if it plays well. And then the other racing disciplines in the same package will be great. No NASCAR for me though.

I saw a video of GT5 rally, and I'd have to say im disappointed. Its still the same super slippery tracks with barriers everywhere and the car bouncing off everything (red & white tape for example) Don't even get me started on the damage. It was beta thought so it still might improve. I still think they should have forgotten useless stuff like recreating all the graffiti on the nurburgring and focus on the damage for example.

I'm gonna agree that the best parts of Dirt 2 were the Trailblazer tracks, and other races where you simply drive by yourself through the long scenic tracks. At the same time though I'm glad that Dirt 2 has a lot of variety. Overall it's an awesome game either way.

Geez, the YouTube comments are brutal. I guess everyone was expecting Codemasters to turn the series completely on its head and make Dirt into a hardcore rally simulation.

I am looking forward to it. It took me a couple tries to get the hang of Grid, but once I got used to the handling, I really liked it. Codemasters makes good arcade racing games. If you go in knowing it's not 100% realistic, you'll enjoy them much more. Pure sims are too difficult anyway.

Dirt 2 would have been awesome without the SUV simulations. Even some of the stadium races were pretty neat, but the SUV stuff was garbage.

I don't much care for the way that the single player is set up in Dirt 2. The events get boring after a while because you just keep going back into your lame trailer and picking events. I prefer something like Burnout Paradise or Test Drive Unlimited where you drive around the world and go to the races on the map to start them.

Also, the lack of vehicle customization was kind of a downer. You get so much money that you can pretty much buy all of the vehicles about half way through the game, and there are no upgrades for them, so money becomes pointless. Even simple upgrades the way that Flatout 2 used is better than nothing.

Almost forgot that the game would absolutely not play on my XP x64 machine. Dirt 2 was what pretty much made me switch to Vista and eventually Win 7.

That being said, the actual racing part is probably one of the best experiences out of all of the racing games that I've played. The tracks are beautiful, detailed, and well designed. The cars pretty much handle the way that you'd expect them to. The graphics are great overall. Even with the downers, Dirt 2 is still a great game. Hopefully they improve the weak points and make Dirt 3 the exceptional game that Dirt 2 could have been.

Dirt 3 will be one of the best racing games in 2011. But, if you like racing, you should also try Need for Speed series, especially Need for Speed: Shift and Shift 2 Unleashed (upcoming). I think NFS Shift 2 Unleashed will be a tough rival for Dirt 3.

I found NFS: Shift to be very boring. Racing around an actual track is just not fun to me. I prefer something offroad with nice scenery or to drive through city streets with traffic and other obstacles to avoid. The hardest things you have to avoid in NFS: Shift is the tight turns and the extremely resistant steering.

The AI was pretty psychotic in that game too, especially the dude driving the Veyrons, but I am looking forward to SHIFT2, the 1st game had potential, the execution was just poor. I don't know what they were trying to do with the steering, but it was aweful.

I've been modding the game a lot. A lot of community mods have improved on the tire modeling and steering realism, feels a lot better.
The AI... I haven't found an AI tweak that makes them feel like anything other than legally-retarded 10 year olds behind the wheel. It's just fucking insane.

Here's to hoping the AI in Shift 2 is a little better.
However, I just paid for a 3 month iRacing license, so we'll see what other racing I do. They have a 3 months for the price of 1 promo going on right now, heard a ton of good things about the physics and handling. No racing game will possibly match with Shift and Shift 2 offer in terms of that raw feel behind racing, but a game with great realistic physics could make it easier to slip into that "I'm doing this for real" feeling. The visual prowess of Shift is destroyed so quickly by the retardedness of the AI and the improper handling (no mod can perfect the game based on what EA/SMS shipped).

I hated the buggies and trucks. I enjoyed the RAID T1 events though. I hope I can drive a VW touareg though Kenya.

I hope we get stages like these

Maybe you guys missed DiRT 1, but 1 had dumpster-like trucks and Semi's. DiRT 2 was really tame on that stuff.

Oh, and I hope my 6870 and Q8200 plays DiRT 3. I barely scraped by in 2 with a 4830 on high settings.

Oh I played those things.

1. There were really slow.
2. The tracks were horribly long.
3. They bounced all over the place.

At least you could skip them in the career.

Well, the EGO engine gets progressively more demanding with each game. Dirt2 wouldn't even run on single core cpus, F1 2010 was barely playable on a dual core that wasn't overclocked. Dirt 3 is probably going to be a tad more demanding. I think you should be able to handle it.

Your 6870 should be able to handle it.

DiRT 2 was a real letdown for me. I didn't play it much, but I was really underwhelmed for the couple hours I did play it.

Personally, I'd like to see another Race Driver: GRiD. That game was just awesome, and I'm surprised they haven't made another one yet.
