Dirt cheap 2-packs of Zip100 disks @ Staples, $3 rebate makes 'em free!

Went to a little-noticed Staples to score one of those $4.94 after rebate D-Link webcams (wahoo!) and happened to notice a tag in the display case for 2-packs of Fuji IBM or Mac formatted Zip100 disks for free, though I couldn't quite figure out how they came out to be free.
The tag said $15.94 - $15.94 (some weird term nobody there knew what it meant) = Free. I figured they would be free at the register somehow. The packages themselves noted a $3 mail-in rebate as well.
Puzzled, I asked someone about it. She got the sales manager, who didn't know what was up either, it wasn't in their flyer, but she took one up to scan to see how it rang up. It came up as $15.94 with $13 instant savings, out-the-door price of $2.94 for a pair of Zip disks. Not bad! With the $3 rebate per pack, they're FREE.
Rebate is limited to 2 per name/address, etc. Only time frame for rebate redemption is within 30 days of purchase.

Enjoy,
Brent

I bought these from Sears on a similar deal a few months back. Have yet to receive the rebate, so beware.

I just bought the last 2 pack (PC format) over at the Staples in Ithaca. Once I send in the rebate it will be free. I also bought the PNY 128 mb stick for my girlfriend's computer. Total spent was $20 after I used the $10 off $30 coupon. Once I send in the $10 rebate for the ram (once I find the rebate), my total spent will be $7 for 2 pack od zip disk and 128mb of ram. Thank you staples (now if only they would continue with student advantage discount, I owuld have gotten all this for free, actually staples would have ended up paying me).

I tried the coupon code online, and got a $13 off 2 x 2/pack Zip100 disks. But it didn't work for one item. Maybe it's a pricing error.

Fuji Zip Disks IBM with $3 MIR, 2/Pack
439321 $15.94 Each $31.88

Subtotal: $31.88
Coupon Code(s):
XXXXX: -$13.00

*Total: $18.88

my local staples b&m stores have bunch of them. the employee was suprised that it's that cheap they don't have it marked so people don't know about it.

don't get too carry away with getting more than two because they only limit 2 per household

Should I open them up to read offer or did anyone open them up yet?
Rather not open if it's a gift ya know...lol

Guess I'll brave the mall traffic on a Friday afternoon to see if they have them. They wanted too much to ship them.

I don't know about any sign, but the rebate offer printed on/in the package itself mentions nothing about a drive purchase. It's a plain old $3 rebate with no additional purchase.

yes, all zip disks are built the same and can be formatted to either mac or pc. when you put in a mac formatted zip disk into a pc it will complain about "invalid media" or "this disk is not formatted, would you like to format it now?", just go ahead and format it, slap a new label on, and you are done!

I tried qty 1 with no success; tried qty 2 and code 65541 and got 13.00 off. BUT if I enter more than qty of 2 then I still only get 13.00 off.

So I guess it is 2 or nothing...but the 7.95 shipping does not make it worth it.

This must only be happening at some Staples B&M's. I went to my local Staples and they had quite a few of the Mac formatted Fuji two packs, but none of the PC formatted ones. I had the guy scan the package and it came up as $15+. Checking the Staples circular that I picked up in-store, I noticed they have this deal:

Free 100mb zip disks (after instant and MIR when purchased with a Zip 100mb external drive. Buy the ZIP ext drive for $99.99 and get a Fuji 100mb 2/Pack $22.97 - $20 IR - $3 MIR = Free.

So I think this might be a pricing mistake that's occuring in certain stores only.

Indeed, appears so. I went by another tonight while I was out and they had only the Mac ones. I had one scanned at it came up $15.94 (instead of the marked $22.xx) with no further discount.

Oh well, wish I had done better research before hocking 'em on Ebay too. Someone took my set of 10 disks at the $25 "buy now" price. I now see I could have easily gotten twice that.

Did this deal today. Price on shelf shows $22+, when scanned shows $15, but the rebate only happens when the salesperson pushes "enter" (or whatever button) to commit you to the sale.

Strange but true!!!!
