Can you break this down, and then explain it to me like I'm a 9 year...errr....6 year old?

I usually wouldn't bother to integrate it, figuring it would be something stupid.

I was right.

Not funny. It just evaluates to 69. Why not put any other mathematical operation that evaluates to 69?

45+24 hahaha
33+36 hahahaha
72-3 ahahahahha

lame.

It's a math nerd shirt. Of course it wouldn't be simple arithmetic.

Too bad its not something more ridiculous, like a taylor series expansion or a more complex integral

For the less-mathematically-inclined:
The integral of 2xdx is x^2.
Evaluate x^2 with x=13 is 169.
Evaluate x^2 with x=10 is 100.
Subract 169-100=69.

Needs to be more complicated. Probably a quarter of high school seniors would get that in 10 seconds.

This. Why not something that uses U substitution or integration by parts. Though it probably won't be the most practical thing to do in your head.

Impressive. I was in honors Math as a senior, but that only covered Trig and super-basic preCalc.

I did got to school in Louisiana, though.
That's disturbing.

Honors math students should be doing pre-calc their junior year, and should probably be exposed to basic derivatives and integrals by the end of that year. AP calc senior year.

Wow really? I was in the equivalent of honors math 12 and we covered differentiation, integration and more. Though we never got into much depth.

That's the problem, there's a massive variation in what's available at public schools. I lived in a pretty wealthy suburban school district and I took Calc II/Diff Eq my senior year.

it does vary, had calc junior year, then differential equations before senior year, then abstract algebra (also called modern algebra) which had some set theory and linear algebra w/matrices senior year.

That sounds MUCH better than the average. Better than the average here in Canada too. Like I was saying I took "honors" math 12 (last year of HS) and we did both differential and integral calc, some VERY basic set stuff, trig and some more complex geometry but I never got into stuff like linear algebra, or differential equations till university.

Public education varies WIDELY by school.

For example, I graduated high school from a small town and we didn't have a fraction of the class choices that larger schools could afford.

Our high school was 9-12, in 8th grade (middle school) I had to go to the high school to take Algebra I because Pre-Algebra was the highest level offered at the middle school. Then Geometry (9th), Algebra II (10th), Pre-Calculus (11th), and Calculus (12th). My school had no AP math classes available and Calculus was the best offered.

Calculus was also the same period as the only AP Government class (one of two total AP classes available) so I had to choose.

Education needs an overhaul and I think the Khan Academy Methodology will be the future. Students will work at their own pace using videos and modules, and teachers will work as guides instead of placing everyone on the same rigid schedule.
