A very small step up from that could be maybe this?

A lot of higher stuff would either give the answer or have to include a ton of decimal places.

I took Calc AB as a senior. I would've had the chance to take BC, but my school district changed the scheduling from a 2 semester block scheduling (4 classes a day for 18 weeks) to a full schedule (7 classes a day for 36 weeks) due to standardized testing.

It cuts your advancement in courses and it really set me behind. Instead I took shit fillers like Home Ec. in my senior year. :\

it was pretty simple.. you just evaluate each integral per each dimension ('dx', 'dy' etc) while treating the other variables as constants.

Yea, I got that right away, and I'm a junior. It's kind of... I don't know, sad, maybe?

I find it interesting how people act as if they should be ashamed of knowing math. Is this what society has come to?

really depends on where you are. there are plenty of people, still, that never made it past trig/pre calc. ofc, they definitely aren't going to be browsing these forums either

I'd get my ass kicked if I wore that to work. Lot of nosy, older, foreign engineers who would probably stop me in the hall and do the math infront of me, then ask what it means... *shudders*

I'm now sad. I went all the way through calc 3 in college along with other math courses to the point where I was 3-4 hours from a minor. Now the most I have to do is balance a check book, put in a margin formula or make sure a number is incrementing correctly. Even most of that is done for me

American HS Seniors?

I took calculus in junior year, but I knew how to integrate by sophomore year. I was done with college calculus before I graduated by taking 2 more quarters at a local community college.

Shrug. I think a good chunk of people will get this, but even I took a while right now. I didn't try to evaluate it. I was trying to see a hidden message. Har har har.

Needs to be more complicated. Probably a quarter of high school seniors would get that in 10 seconds.
The sad part is, I had Calc I in high school, sucked at it, then had Calc I again in college (which I finally went to about 5 years after high school) , then Calc II, then Differential Equations. Thanks to my good homework grade, I got Bs in Calc I and II. Diff Eq. was only tests and quizzes. It was my only C in college, and a very solid one: 75%. Mathematical sorcery!!!

Now a few years later, I couldn't remember how to integrate over an interval. I got to the 1/2 * x^2 part, and then didn't know how to continue. KMc's post was helpful in that regard. I guess that's bound to happen though, since I've not had any need to use integrals or differentiation ever since then.

And of course, years later, it's finally started to "click" with respect to the ways that calculus is reflected in the real world, instead of purely abstract concepts about new ways to torture and torment numbers and variables.

We only had one Pre-Cal class in High School 20 years ago. The kids in our school who could solve that at the time would probably only see a real one in a movie.
