If I'm getting a new PC with a Soyo K7V-Dragon Plus Via KT266A Chip w/ RAID, LAN, UDMA-100 and I want to disable the onboard sound to put in a new sound card, do I just go in the device manager and check the Disable in this Hardware Proffile box and install the new card? Or do I have to do something in the BIOS? Thanks

Ok on the one I have now I went into the BIOS and saw Integrated Sound and it was enabled and I changed it to disabled and when Windows booted up it still detected it. Hmmmm.

I installed a SOYO TISU MB in January. Disable the onboard sound in the BIOS.
Windows (98SE) didn't detect mine after disabling. BUT disabling the sound did not
disable the game port. So if your new sound card has its own game port AND you
don't need/want the onboard game port, look for a separate place in the BIOS
to disable that..........Greg

I have a Soyo dragon + Running WinXp and I can disable onboard sound uninstall drivers and plugin ANY soundcard I feel like and the onboard sound won't interfere and Windows won't attempt to use it.

Ok when I get the new MB and go into the BIOS to disable the onboard sound, what exactly is it under? Plug and Play, Peripherals, etc.. Can someone give me a tip on where exactly it is in the BIOS so I don't screw it up hehe. That's the only thing I think I need to adjust because the Soyo doesn't have onboard video that I know of. If I'm wrong correct me please.

I thought the dragon was supposed to have really good onboard sound. What are you replacing it with?

An Audigy Platinum. I just want to know where to do it in the BIOS in general though. Like I said I tried it on the one have now by Disabling where it said Integrated Sound but it still detects it and it's in my Device Manager as a Communications Port of all things. Go figure.

It's under Soyo Combo features. There you can adjust the FSB, CPU Multiplier, turn on and off the RAID/SOUND/LAN/BIOS protection etc.

BTW: How much are you getting the Audigy Platinum for? I've seen it for $154, but I just replaced the onboard Soyo 6channel sound with a Hercules Game Thearer XP and I love it.

I like the external box better than the internal drive for 2 reasons. 1) no wires hanging off the front of my case making it look kinda ugly. 2)I can close my case doow and still use the box not to mention the 4port USB HUB.

The Game Theater Xp also supports 6.1 surround sound if you use the analog outputs.

The Audigy is great if you're into amature recording and such, but for gaming and general music listening you should save a few bucks.

P.S. I'm not trying to change your mind about your purchase but just informing you and others about what I feel is a great product.

Look in the user's manual or on the mobo itself and see if there is a jumper to physically disable the on-board audio; this is what I did to my Asus P4T-E as well as disabling it from BIOS. Win2k does not detect my on-board audio...
