Disabling Speedstep

I have an HP Compaq nx9420 w/ a 1.83GHz Core Duo, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to disable Intel's Speedstep. It is dropping my CPU speed down to about 950MHz which makes some tasks unbearable slow. There is no option in the BIOS to disable it and I also have my power options set to "Always On" but doesn't help. I've loaded up CPU-Z under both no load and large load and both ways show the processor constantly swapping between 950mhz and the full 1.83ghz. This is extremely annoying and i cant seem to find a fix for it. Can anyone help? Thanks

If your computer truly needed the full processor it would keep it running at 1.83 ghz. Speedstep shouldn't actually cause any true performance decrease.

Try running super-prime and see if it your core stays at full speed during the execution (run only 1 copy, you should see 50% computer use at 100% clock speed if it works right).

pretty much if it isn't a bios option you might be SOL, as buying from someone like HP, you get what the OEM wants you to get.. end of story.

the power management is terrible for games makes them and other things extremely choppy.Use speedswitchXP and under cpu policy set it to allow promotion to no and allow demotion to no
I had this same problem on a laptop and the manufacturer messed with the power options in the OS so that even on allways on it would throttle the cpu made my games unplayable mine also had no way to disable it in the BIOS

Get Notebook Hardware Control (w/ Core 2 patch) and set it to always run at 100%.

But really, even on battery it is always dynamically switching speeds and if you really need 100% speed, it wouldn't be dropping the multiplier like that. What kind of applications are running slow? Do they run slow even when you plug in the AC power?
