Disappearing IE wondow

Whenever i press the restore down button in Internet Explorer 6.0 in Win XP the window shoots to the upper left of the screen and the only way i can get it back is if i rigt click on it in the task bar and click maximize. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Some websites open windows with a specified size, and seem to override whatever settings you have made -- I know after a visit to my online banking, the windows open in different sizes.

Try this:

With ONLY ONE IE6 WINDOW OPEN, right click on a hyperlink and select OPEN LINK IN NEW WINDOW. Don't maximize the new window (assuming you can see it at all; boy I hope so). Close the original window, then resize the newly opened window to the size you want. Hopefully all of your new windows will open to that size.

I have tried that, when i do it it opens (doesnt open?) to where i cannot see it. The only way to see it is to righy click and maximize. Any other ideas?

By the way, what happens when you spawn a new window by selecting FILE - NEW - NEW WINDOW ?


Edit>> other suggestions:

1) close all windows except for the one that opened minimized, right click on the taskbar and pick 'tile windows horizontally'- then close IE and relaunch it

2) change your screen resolution, something may get changed in the registry, then reboot and launch IE again

3) make sure there isn't a program you don't know about starting when you start windows that might affect window sizes (i.e., run adaware)

4) in the IE6 Internet Options - Programs, click on 'Reset Web Settings'

5) Reinstall IE6

Thanks for trying to help, none of those things worked. BTW, this only happens in this account in Windows XP, not in any of the other ones.

Sorry about my first post but I can't seem to get the hang of entering a link to this post. Or anthing else for that matter.I had the same problem as you but only one user the administrator.
Opening links in Outlook Express & IE 6 they always were minimized in the Task Bar.
This worked for me. Go here: Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q256953 and use the Windows 2000 Workaround. All your windows should open Maximized afterwards.
It's very easy to do. It's worth a try and it did work for several others that I sent it to. Post back let us know how it worked for you.

It sounds possible that OE has hijacked your browser. I hope he's right.

It sounds like your non-maximized state has its window position off the screen so try this:

Make sure only 1 instance of IE is open.
Click the Restore Down button so you lose the window.
Right-click the taskbar button for the window and click Move then don't touch the mouse.
Hit any arrow key a couple of times (locks the hidden window to the mouse cursor).
Now move the mouse cursor around and see if the window reappears onscreen following your mouse cursor.
Click your mouse button once its on screen to stop moving it.
Now close the window. (IE should have no open windows anymore).
Relaunch IE and click the Restore Down button again (if its maximized).

It should now return to where you moved it last instead of off your screen.

Just to let you all know what the problem was, here is an update. For some reason when the window was told to resize, it resized so small that it was just barely possible to see. It was literally just a tiny spec on the screen, so it was always there, it just wasnt possible to see it.
