Disappointed with Iphone 4S

I am kind of disappointed with this phone. I hadn't even looked at other phones before I bought this Iphone and I knew nothing about smartphones, reason being I bought it impulsively completely new, sealed for 400 euros from an acquaintance because I knew it was 580 euros from Apple.

Today I went to the store and took a look at other phones. I saw the Samsung Galaxy S3 and it costs 470 euros and it has a much bigger screen and from what I've read so far doesn't have anything to lose in terms of performance in comparison to the Iphone 5.

Why the hell does the Iphone 4S cost so much? The thing looks so pathetic next to a SG3. I'm seriously thinking of selling it for like a 50 euro profit and getting a SG3. What do you think considering the price I got it for?

Because it's apple, for some reason people are willing to pay a lot more for used/old iphones so the prices are always way inflated on them, and Apple are dicks about lowering their prices for old hardware. I would definitely return it if you don't like it.

I would sell the iPhone and buy a GS3 or LG Nexus 4.

if you don't like it, get rid of it! No reason to come on here to start another android vs. iOS war... (as if we don't have enough of it)

For what it's worth, one of the rules of the forums is "no price checks" (rule #14).

As far as the iPhone 4S vs. Galaxy S3, that's a bit of a nonstop debate in this forum, although you are comparing last years iPhone vs. the latest from Samsung. My opinion is that people should spend a whole lot of time reading reviews and playing with the phones in the stores before they purchase because there's a lot of subjectivity into what makes a good phone - for some people the SGS3 is too big, others love the screen... Ironically enough, I was talking to my father last night and he asked me whether he should get an iPhone 5 or an SGS3 and I told him "I'd recommend the SGS3 for you, but go to the store play with it and ask the guys there if you can put it in your pocket just to see and then try email and maps and make sure you like them".

This. It does retain its value because of Apple's long release cycle and lack of discounts.

As for actual use... yeah, unless your hands don't like the size, the S3 is really nice. Just don't forget to turn off S-Voice and turn on Google Now.

Usually "disappointment" means you were hoping for something and you didn't get it. From what I gather, you haven't even figured out what your phone can or cannot do and instead spent too much time reading the various nerd fights online. The iPhone 4S is my current phone and it's definitely more than capable of everything I want out of a smartphone. I have no disappointment in the platform.

I think you have more of a "buyers remorse" and not disappointment because you haven't identified something you were hoping to get but didn't get.

Try using a galaxy s3. The lag will be worse than with an iPhone 3GS if you are on ice cream sandwich. With jelly bean it will probably lag as much as ios6 does in iPhone 4 if that is possible.

iPhones are the smoothest, snappiest and most polished smartphones. And I personally prefer a 3.5" screen for my phone.

Galaxy s3 is better in a few respects like open source, better screen etc. but overall I would take an iPhone 4S anyday. And this comes from an owner of both and former android fan and apple hater.

My wife's GSIII with ICS isn't laggy whatsoever. I've noticed at times it might have a tiny, TINY hiccup, but nothing that would constitute a deal breaker. OP has a right to have a bit of buyer's remorse, but he also deserves little sympathy for being an impulsive buyer and not doing his research. The iPhone 4s/5 are great phones, but they're definitely not the undisputed best. The GSIII is a very capable and fast phone with many pros over the iPhone.

Everybody has different tolerance to lag. I have tried at least 2 different s3s and both were equally bad. I tried a htc one x which was night and day better but not iPhone smooth.

I am talking of stock firmware and not custom firmware. And I tested at launch, not with jb.

Lag? On a phone newer than 1 year? For real...?

I think the international version is supposed to be a bit faster than the domestic US one anyway so...

It's basically on par depending on the task you are performing, but in general the benchmarks are a little bit higher due to Exynos 4412 being a Quad core.

The only lag that bugs me on android phones is when you rotate. Android is way slower than apple.
I can tell you though that my iPhone 4 has many bugs especially with the newer os's. lag, freezing, turtle mode, etc.

I'm personally going to try the note 2 for my first android based phone. Best of luck but with my current hate toward apple I would look at the gs3 or something else.

Custom roms fixed that for many devices. I don't know what particular code they adjusted but that lag can be pretty much gone. I believe some even allow you to adjust the sensitivity so it doesn't do it by accident which is a serious annoyance sometimes for me lol.

I actually think the rotation delay is intentional, so that it doesn't constantly rotate as people change viewing positions.

iPhones are a extremely smooth experience. Especially compared to my sad Galaxy S with 2.3. My Dad has a GS3 and it does lag every now and then when I play with it, but it's not bad like my phone. I would get an iPhone, I just want a bigger screen and don't want to fall asleep using it. I am sorry but iOS is really boring.... Maybe it will get better now that the supposed dick Scott Forstall is gone..?
