I bought an Audigy today and I was quite disappointed with it. I don't think it worth so much of money. I couldn't hear any diff. between value and audigy. Maybe my hearing level is low? My roomate said maybe because my digital speaker is not good enough? I don't know. I'm using creative FSP2000 and I think it's a good speaker. Anyway I have some questions about my audigy and I guess you guys have the answer for them.
1) Do I have to use creative playcenter in order to fully enjoy audio clean up, DREAM and EAX advanced HD audia effects? I mean can I use winamp or windows media player?
2) In my old Live! value mixer, there is a setting for me to keep my treble and bass level at the level I set even when I change my EAX effect, but in audigy mixer, I couldn't find it. Anyone knows where it is?
3) I had this static noise "tic tic tic" from my digital speaker (FPS2000) when I was using my old live! value card (once a while, not always), at that time I thought maybe it was because my live! value that made all these noise. But after I installed my audigy, this static noise(once a while too)is still there. I already changed my sampling rate to 44.1KHz but no luck. So is this because of the VIA PCI thing? Should I install the patch created by george(viahardware.com)?

Thanks

If your running windows XP you should make sure you have all the driver updates for you Audigy, as far as sound quality go's, thats very odd it dosn't sound any better. I personaly think the Audigys sound a great deal better.

Well games it does better than value, but so far there are only a few games (maybe none?) that use EAX advanced hd.
What player do you use for playing CD/mp3z? I use winamp + DFX and I couldn't hear any diff. Maybe my hearing/listening skill is low

I use windows media player, very simple. I would use a 3'rd party player but I dont think there is that much of a difference. I wouldn't use the winamp mixer, the one thats included with your audigy is perfect already.

I also use Windows media player,as for Audigy sound quality it does sound better in many ways over my other SB live in my other PC,mind you I`m using about $500 worth of Hi-fi gear with it.

okay.
So you mean you have to switch your effect everytime you listen to a song? I mean like from rock to techno, and then to heavy metal.
I use winamp + DFX, maybe that's the reason I couldn't hear the diff.

I was disappointed when I upgraded a Soundblaster PCI 512 to a Hercules 6.1 GTXP.

The difference is definitely there, just not the difference I expected. The sound just isn't as good as a dedicated CD player. It sounds similar to using a portable CD player as the source for a home theater.

I'm using a $450 Rotel 2ch amplifier, $600 msrp JBL S38 studio speakers with winamp. It does however blow away any multimedia speakers I've tried.

do i have to use its own player (creative playcenter) in order to 'feel' the diff. ?

Well unless you were using some AC97 crapper then going from your Live to the audigy wouldn't afford you a "knock your socks off" perceptible difference. The Live is a good product and already did a decent job of recreating the sound waves so the minute technical refinement of the Audigy isn't a quantum leap better. So much for buying into the hype of newer is always MUCH better...live and learn... :disgust:

When I upgrade to the George PCI latency patch it caused a constant ringing from my mains tweeter. I had messed with all my connections, cables, and sources but couldn't fix the harmonic distortion. When I uninstalled the george e breese latency patch the ringing went away.

That tick noise reminds of a digital signal problem. Have you tried switching between analog and digital sound? Have you played with all the program settings?

Check your connections and wires etc..

I'm having a problem with the Audigy too. When I play EverQuest, there will be random high pitched whistles coming out of the speakers. I'll be playing and suddenly a whistle and scratchy pink noise. It totally kills the sounds of the game and I have to shut off the speakers until it goes away. It happens randomly and nothing that I can tell sets it off. Any ideas?

It might be the speakers too.

I don't think so. I tried AC97 and the static noise wasn't there.
