My friend has some HP disaster recovery software that came with his drive. I'm wondering whether and what programs are out there for this peripheral.. A disaster recovery program, creates a bootable CD set that will completely recover your windows installation even after a hard disk fdisk and reformat...

Powerquest Drive Image 4.0 will create an image of an entire partition and write it to CDRs or CDRWs (it will automatically span disks). It creates rescue disks that will boot to DOS and run Drive Image to restore the saved image to a formatted hard drive. I ran it last night. My 4GB drive took 7 CDRs to image. Drive Image 4.0 costs $55 at buy.com. There's a $15 rebate coupon in the box.

Great, thanks for the information. I'm subscribed to the thread still, so I'm listening.

Drive Image is good.

Make your recovery image files into whatever size you chose (650mb for cd's) then burn them if you want to with your writting software. Just remember to not use Jiolet format, but iso9660 format.

Here is what I use, a second HDD in a removable tray, use Drive Image ( or Ghost if you prefer ) burn Images to removable HDD of your C: Drive, I use Drive Image, takes 5 min to create a 1.3 GB image, and
about 7 min to restore a complete C: Drive. I have 3 Images of each of my 2 computers, and my wifes, and grandaughters machines. After FDISK, Format, and OS install, I burn Image #1, after insatllation of all of my prefered core programs. Zip Magic, Netscape Communicator, PC-illin
anti-virus, etc:, I burn Image 2, after addition of new programs, I burn Image 3, I can restore to whatever Config I want. Works great for me. I then just delete and burn a new image #3 after program installs.
Workd great for me. Radarman

I've used Backup Exec 95 with a tape drive and Backup Exec 98 with a burner. Both worked as advertised, with 2 rescue floppies, as I recall.
