Disastrous Disaster Movies

With the daily looking even more ridiculous disaster movie 'The Day After Tomorrow' coming out soon, I was forced to search back through my memory and conjur up some of the bad disaster movies of the past. Movies such as 'Volcano' starring Tommy Lee Jones and Ellen Degeneres' former life-partner where a volcano erupts in the middle of Los Angeles simply to remind us of racial equality. Movies such as 'Kingdom of the Spiders' starring William Shatner....not even Captain Kirk could best a town full of pesky arachnids! And let's not forget fellow Star Trek alum DeForest Kelly's turn at playing a vet in a small town full of killer pests in 'Night of the Lepus'....GIANT KILLER BUNNIES!!!!

For the most part, the entire genre is a joke to me. The funniest one I ever heard of was a TV movie called "Atomic Train." I think shortly thereafter there was another TV movie called "Atomic Tornado." :roll:

Never mind, it's Atomic Twister. Even better, they banked on the popularity of another lame disaster flick.

LMAO, I remember watching Atomic Twister just for the hell of it one night. Only in a made for TV movie could a raging tornado sneak up on security guard sitting in his guard shack. Seriously, there was a security guard sitting in the guard shack at the entrance of a nuclear power plant completely oblivious to the noise, wind, and rain outside. He just happened to step out of the shack only to see a tornado bearing down on him from a few dozen yards away....

Did you ever notice that Irwin Allen had a thing for Ernest Borgnine being in his movies which is a disaster in and of itself.

There were some scifi disaster classic ones from the 60's like Crack in the World, the Day the Earth Caught Fire, and When Worlds Collide. Plenty in the 70's already listed though The Big Bus wasn't mentioned. More recently the Core which for some reason wasn't bad enough that the SciFi channel decided to make their own version.
