Apple used to do this a lot back in the day. They say a machine can only take 32 mb because all you could buy at the time was 16mb chips. Or because they need "low profile" chips and they where not making large capacity chips in low profile yet.
And EveryMac says it can take 64.

Anyway. You dont want to run OS X on the machine. You want to take it to the recycling center and get rid of it.
