Beat the parents. Its their responsibility anyway.

As for me: I choose to frequent places that arent family friendly.
Sadly this does not always work. I went to Hooters at 11 o'clock the other night and sure as shit, some assholes brought their toddlers & infant into the joint. What kind of fucked up cockmonglers bring their kids out to party at 11? They need to be beaten.

a swift and unexpected backhand which resonates through the restaurant and leaves the kid looking dumbfounded and shocked is the only solution. everyone knows this.

Solution, not dream world. If the kids are acting up long enough to be annoying, it's already a given that the parents are doing nothing.

Re: my own kids - they would be dragged out to the car & brought back in once they stopped crying. They'd have something to cry about.

Yep...and they'd be standing for the rest of the meal...unable to sit down.

I hate when parents don't realize their screaming kid is ruining everyone's night out

I never eat at any fast food joints. When I go to a Chile's or Friday's etc... I sit in the bar area. Never any children there Otherwise the 20$ + per plate establishments I frequent, never seem to have any children in them.

Also, I appreciate all of you parents out there who gave honest, constructive feedback here. Some of your ideas are great, and I will add them to my list of "solutions of how to handle bad behavior".

Hubby and I do not have children but we are considering it.

My dad owns a restaurant and has actually asked customers to leave who could not control their children. Recently there was a douchebag couple who actually let their young son and daughter run around the dining room screaming. After 2 close calls with waitresses carrying loaded trays of hot food, my dad asked them to restrain their children. The parents were momentarily embarrassed, but 5 minutes later the BS restarted. Out they went and some ppl in the dining room actually clapped and expressed approval.

I'm not terribly bothered by other people's kids. Unless they run up to my table and kick me in the shins, I generally give parents the benefit of the doubt.

There really is no hard-and-fast rule on disciplining a child that works flawlessly for all children, despite what some of the childless posters of ATOT seem to believe.

I'd wind the little shits up even more when nobody was looking. Get them so off the wall that the management of the restaurant has to come throw them out. If mommy and daddy didn't give a crap about controlling junior before, once it comes down to being told to leave or getting their kid under control, they might just smack the little idiot an get him to sit down.

My kids are still small, 2 and 3, but when they're with me in a restaurant they behave themselves. I can't say for when they're alone with mommy or with the grandparents or whatever, but if I'm there they know they need to behave. I make it very clear that the restaurant is NOT a playground, is NOT our house, and other people come there to eat and have a nice time, and as long as we're there they need to sit in their char and eat their food, and if they're done they can color or play on my iphone or whatever.

Our kids have always been pretty well behaved though, never any screaming or tantrums (in public or otherwise). They tend to sulk when they're not happy, even the two year old just crosses her arms and goes "Humph!" at you if she is mad. She glares a lot too, which she gets from me I guess, since Mommy likes to yell and swear when she's mad

If I acted up like that in any public situation my mom would not tolerate it. She'd grab me by my arm, take me to the car and beat me (not abuse, mind you).

Yeah, guess what?

I didn't act up very often because of that.

Inspired by top 10 pet peeves about restaurants. So far, it's never happened to me in a nice restaurant, but it seems that half the time we eat at fast food chains (Applebees, etc.) I get stuck next to some family with kids that are seriously misbehaving (screaming, running around, etc.)

My first solution: turn around and tell the kids if they don't shut up, I'm calling the boogie man and monsters to hide under their bed & in their closet tonight.

Suggestions?

Seeing as how you raise goats and all, and that you seem so attached to them (they are really cute), I would have guessed that you wouldn't be bothered by a few kids doing what kids do best!

Ahhhh....another "I don't have kids but would know what to do if I did" thread.

When people that say these things have their own kids, they tend to say "Ohhh....I get it now."

"Ohhh....I get it now. I should have never had kids and am a complete wank as a parent" If you cant control your kids it is your own fault.

I think parents need to give their kids something to do when they go out. Sitting at a table and listening to adult conversations is boring as shit. It no surprise that they run around screaming to entertain themselves.

End thread. Confirmed absolutely true. I used to be one of those pissed off people. I now have 2 kids. Now I get it.

um. If you cannot control your kid you have no business taking them to a restaurant or even worse on an airplane.

qfmft.

(and yes, I have kids and understand that it's difficult to keep them in line at times...especially since you can't bust their asses without getting social services called on you and your child(ren) taken away! )

Who gives a fuck.

I get it, and I don't have kids.

What gives you and your prick kids the right to infringe on other people's evenings?

Especially when that evening could cost them a few hundred bucks?

Another "I expect strangers and the public to take care of my kids because I am too lazy and irresponsible to do it myself." Yes, that's exactly what you are doing when you let your kids run wild in a store or restaurant while you talk to your friends. I am the one keeping an eye on them so they don't get hurt or touch/break my stuff.
