It's not the actual theft that's being in play here. It's the negligence on the part of the owner who left their firearm within easy reach of theft.

Are you supporting the idea that because of being negligent, a loaded firearm that you left on your front porch while you were somewhere else was taken and then used in a bank robbery where customers were killed and that you are blameless because you were a victim of theft? Are you purporting that you can leave your firearm anywhere, any place and at any time, and if someone takes it and uses it in a crime you are blameless?

The number of children killed by neglect or abuse exceeds the number of children shot on Friday. Why are we having this discussion about the right to own guns? Is it because it's more newsworthy? On my property? Yes I can, that is not negligent behavior as the taking of my weapon would itself be a crime. I cannot be held liable for criminal acts, period.

You can't blame the victim of a crime. By your logic if I left a garden tool out on the porch and it was used in a crime I should somehow be at fault.

The U.S. are veritable 'youts,' pikers, noobs at owning firearms compared to countries like Afghanistan where every single town, cross roads and, mud hut has a cache of weapons and has had for centuries. It's not as simple as "the right to bear arms," it's the entire history, culture and, custom of the U.S. for citizen armies. The UK has an even longer tradition of professional armies.
