Dish Question !

I hope this is the right place to ask this.
A friend of mine moved out of state and gave me a direct tv dish+tuner Hughes gold edition modelHIRD-D2(has an ACCESS card that says blockbuster).
he said it's paid for,but he was no longer subscribed with them.
is there any reason for me to connect this thing being that they now give them away for free?

Well, what's the difference? The one you got from your friend is free too isn't it?

But if he doesn't subscribe, then the access card won't work anymore.

Call DirectTV and give them the serial number. theu will tell you asap....Just act dumb and tell them someone gave it to you....

The only reason to use that one over the free deals you see is you would not be contracted for a year. The free would come with an installation kit with a bunch of screws, brackets and installation instructions.

If I subscribe by buying one of the freebies that feeds to one TV , can I use the tuner my friend gave me to tune a differnet station to the 2nd TV(using a splitter of some sort) without paying for a second one ?

You would need to buy a dual LNB to use the second tuner. Then run a seperate cable for the second tuner. Easy to do. It costs a bit extra each month for the second receiver. You would still need to give them the serial number. The receiver is activated by a code imbedded in the signal.
