I have all my local channels through the over the air antenna. But the problem is the listing for what is on for those channels say "Digital Service". Is there any way to get those listings so I have them for like a week worth?

Not without subscribing to dish locals, if those channels are not subscribed it doesn't upload the guide for them.
Dish has no support for retrieving the guides in the digital OTA signals.
I think it is just a way to get people to subscribe to their locals and not use OTA.
Just like they don't support QAM on the tuners.

Wow lame. So there's no way I can get the channel listings then huh? If we get dish local but not the HD version will it get the channels?

Yes, but check with Dish as the locals vary for different areas with what locals you get.
Where I live there are some locals I can get over the air that are not offered for dish locals.

Do you like the Dish quality better than the OTA quality? There has to be some workaround. Isn't that information sent out and received by the OTA antenna?

Where I live the OTA look better with antenna than with dish. Dish is ok, but sometimes the picture looks like it has interference in it.
Dish gets their locals from local contractors in different areas. They are responsible for receiving the signal, via antenna or direct feed and uplinking it to dish who beams it back down to your dish. Since Dish provides the program guide they are the only ones who can decide if you see it or not.

It's either $5 or $6 a month. ( I pay yearly, don't remember.) Try it and see if you like it.

If you've set up an online account, you can chat with a CSR at their website. Better IMO than talking to someone in a third world country. Get the inside poop online. Ask about one year of Cinemax for $.01.

I have an older SD receiver without an Ethernet port. You might want to check out the forums at http://www.satelliteguys.us/. I can tell you, that for people without a phone at home, they can connect that to their network and eliminate the fee associated with having no phone connection to the receiver.

If it has other uses, I don't know. Dish puts a lot of technology into their receivers that ends up never being utilized. USB is a classic example.

The guys at the satelliteguys forums can tell you with certainty what the purpose of that port is. They may even disprove what I've told you.

I believe that's because the OTA signal is not compressed or retransmitted like the Dish signal - football always look better using the OTA signal.

An added bonus of getting locals and using the OTA is that it acts like a 3rd tuner; you can watch something live on an OTA channel while you're recording 2 things on tuners 1 & 2.

What's the deal w/ .01 Cinemax, I just ask for it and get it?

Don't they offer an external hard drive now through the USB port?

Yes, but for example, my 721 has one but can't utilize it.
