Dishwasher Recommendations

Dual post from OT Discussion Club. I think I meant to post here in the H&G forum instead, so sorry for double posting.

This 2 yr old OT discussion thread came up in my AT Forums search for a dishwasher replacement. It seems that the original post became, at least to me, way off-topic.

So, I'm l asking the same question about dishwasher brands.

What seems to be reliable and long-lived or is 7 yrs the general life expectancy for this type of appliance? My Samsung DMT300 lasted 7 years. It was quiet enough and we used it at least every other day. We like having a dishwasher so I want to replace it. The Samsung cost $650 in 2012.

Any recommendations?

Bosch. Even the entry level unit is under $600.

I have a top of the line kitchenaid that's around 15 and still works like a charm.

We redid our kitchen 2 years ago and replaced all the appliances with kitchenaid stuff. So far the dishwasher is holding up and it's quiet, but it's only 2 yrs old. We like it so far though. I like the delay start. I set it to start around 10pm when we're about to go to bed. Not because it's loud but it's off hours for our PGE bill.

Bosch 800 series. My only complaint is the mounting clips.

When I purchased mine, I searched for a recessed handle. All store models (bosch, maytag, etc) had loose handles and I didn't want to worry about getting snagged on them when walking by the dishwasher. Another point...it took me a while to get used to the buttons on my Bosch. My old GE and Whirlpool dishwashers had printed circuit board buttons...like what they use on microwaves and oven controls. Bosch used a touch sensor control, similar to the Xbox One power button. You just put your finger on the button, you don't need pressure to make it work....you just have to hold your finger on the button until it's recognized. The reset button requires a 3 second touch to clear a cycle. It took some getting used to, but there aren't any moving parts to break in the control board and it's sealed. The only catch is you can't see/access the controls or the timer when the door is closed.

If you time the births of your children just right you will always have a dishwasher. It costs more than a dishwasher, but when is the last time you could tell your dishwasher to take out the trash?
