Disk Partition Problem...

Just a quick question. I have a 120GB WD and already have it split up in 4 partitions but I have an extra 40GB's that I haven't touched yet. So I wanted to make another partition but it won't give me the option to. Is there a partition limit for NTFS? I'm running XP right now. Thanks.

I'm not sure what the limit is, but it is more than 4 partitions. You should be able to use the Disk Management tool to create a partition from this space. Is the space unallocated or is it allocated and you just have not created a logical drive out of it? Right click on the unused space and see if it is unallocated or just not assigned a logical drive letter.

When I right click on the unallocated space the only options that come up is properties, actually new partition option comes up but its greyed out so its not accessible.

You can only have 4 primary partitions on a hard drive. You can make one extended partition to take the place of one primary partition. Inside of the the extended partition, you can create 20+ logical partitions.

If you already have four primaries, you will have to delete one (probably the last one you made) and then create an extended partition.

As for skibbi, I currently run 6 operating systems on one drive, which forces me to have several partitions. However, if you are only a Windows user, having many partitions may not always make sense.
