Disney announces Han Solo spin-off!

Han Solo, the spotlight is yours.

Disney announced on Tuesday that a Han Solo spin-off is in the works, with The Lego Movie directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord behind it.

The new Star Wars chapter will focus on Han Solo's pre-Princess Leia days. "This is the first film we've worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with," said Miller and Lord in a statement released by Disney. The directors have also helmed Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street.

According to Disney, the prequel will focus on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley. (No word on whether Harrison Ford will cameo.)

I thought this was known for a while? Not the specific date/year, but that they were doing a bunch of spinoffs and Han was definitely going to be getting one.

I'm more worried that Harrison Ford is going to be dead before they even get it made. That or he's going to be in a wheelchair or something. Plus, I have concerns that he'll be invested enough in it to carry an entire movie. He looks more and more like he's just collecting a paycheck in his roles.

I personally have very little interest in this. I'm sure I'll see it at some point, but this isn't going to be a culture altering experience or anything. It'll probably end up being a reasonably enjoyable but mostly forgettable action schlock movie.

All they're going for is "Did it meet projections for profitability?"

For example, the Scary Movie franchise: As long as they keep breaking even by an appropriate amount, the studio executives will keep pinching off fresh logs.

I've thought that a TV series about Luke as a child could be cool. How Luke came to live with Uncle Owen, where Owens relationship with Obiwan went bad. Obiwan /Ben could be watching over Luke protecting him from danger without being seen. End the series at the sandman from episode 4.

Not sure how I feel about this. I loved the OT, but they're trying to bleed Star Wars dry like they're doing with the Marvel universe. These kind of movies aren't made by creative people. They're made by focus groups and boardrooms.

Haha, after finding out it was going to be about a younger him that was my immediate thought. Well actually the funny thing is, I actually would love that. He's fucking crazy, and he'd make sure that movie was interesting at least. Well unless they somehow get him to act like in Transformers.
