Disney World – For kids or adults?

Is Disney World for kids or adults? I have the belief that Disney World is for ages 5 to 12 years old. Is this true? I have never been to Disney World nor know anyone who has been there.

I ask, because our son has always wanted to go to Disney World, but living thousands of miles away, it just never happened. Now that he is 19 years old, he has requested to be taken to Disney World this summer. Will he be bored there? Are the rides there for mainly kids, adults or both?

How long will the lines be in late May? I have the belief that there will be hours of waiting in line during late May? Is this true?

On the Disney World web site, a 4 day theme park ticket costs $305.00 per person ($325 with tax). Does it require 4 days to see everything or can it be done in less? A single day ticket to the Magic Kingdom is $105 and a one day ticket for EPCOT/Animal Kingdom/Hollywood Studios is $97.

Will a 19 year old find enough entertainment at Disney World?

It is for both.... They have adult rides too...

Disney World also has like... 5 parks. Magic Kingdom (closest to kiddie, has princess stuff, etc..), Epcot (total adult park of exploring different countries cultures), Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and some water parks.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/destinations/

If you're going to go, definitely go for multiple days to experience all of the parks. It's like... $110 for 1 park on 1 day. Getting multi-days (5+ days ideal) saves a SHITLOAD off that base price, plus you can experience all of them to scratch them off the list instead of just 1. Believe me, you will rarely have time to go to 1 park and then park hop to another.

As far as lines go, I can't tell you what the ideal time to go would be. I think it sucks all the time. The best bet is to use the Express pass as much as possible. It's where you basically grab a ticket for a ride and get to comeback later and go to the front of the line.

As far as a 19 year old.... eh, that is a bit old - shouldn't he be in the rebel teenager years? Either way, there is no age group for Disney World. I've known my wife for about 4 years now, we have no kids - and we have been to Disney World / Disney Land about 4 times so far

19 probably not, over 21 probably. EPCOT Food & Wine Festival is pretty fun.

I've been several times as an adult, but my wife used to work there so the tickets were free and she got a huge discount. Stayed at the Grand Floridian one trip, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Wilderness Lodge, all on the Club Level.

Victoria & Albert's in the Grand Floridian is probably the best restaurant I've ever been to.

Disney World is for children. If you're an adult, and the reason you went isn't because "my kids haven't been", welcome to the creeper list.

Whats the best means to get discounts? I always go and cringe everytime we pay $100+ for tickets. Someday we're going to have a kid that wants to go and it's going to be 4-5 days in the park. Got any tips on keeping it somewhat on a budget?

Definitely plenty to do as an adult in any of their parks. There are certainly a lot of rides and attractions aimed at younger kids but there's still tons to do. Go off-season. Even then the parks will be crowded but if you go when US kids are in school it's much nicer. We've been in late September and it was much more manageable than in the summer or spring.

Yes. My wife and I love going to Disney and now with the little one, we love it even more. It's definitely not a cheap vacation but there's so much going on around you. And discounts can be found. Check www.undercovertourist.com.

4 days MIGHT be enough to experience MK, Epcot, HS, and AK given that you schedule everything perfectly and go having only that one purpose in mind. But I gather most who enjoy Disney like to be able to take their time with some things and soak it all in.

Fast pass scheduling is key to being able to ride all of the popular rides and i believe reservations open up 60 days in advance. During busy seasons (including May) I would guess that FPs would fill up very quickly. We just went in Feb and we couldn't get FP for any of the popular rides about 30 days prior to our travel dates.

-Don't waste your FP on rides that have relatively short waits... like It's a Small World.
-Do get the park hopper and try to group parks together. For example... a wider range of food can be found at Epcot. You could visit one of the other parks during the day and then Epcot for dinner at night followed by the fireworks, etc.
-Do Downtown for dinner or if you just want to spend some time away from the parks.
-Do character dining if you have any kids with you. Especially "Be Your Guest" if you can get a reservation for it.

The week after thanksgiving is one of the best times to go. Their Christmas decorations go up, and the kids are back in school. I would definitely recommend Disney for adults. My wife has been dying to go back since our last trip a few years ago.

No idea. Like I said, my wife worked in the communications department, so she didn't know about any ticketing info. She had a guest pass for me, and she could get 40%-60% off with her employee ID.

Kids are free until 3 years old, I believe. I haven't once notice them check at the gate but I probably wouldn't try to pass a 6 year old off as a 3 year old.

I didn't like it when I was 10. I couldn't imagine liking it now. Maybe if I was 6 it would have been fun. Too boring.

Oh hell no I'm not bringing a 3 year old with us. They don't know how to enjoy it and it would just be a carrying around a large brick on our back all-day to make us tired too. If I have a kid they aren't going until they can appreciate it.

To each his own. There's nothing like watching my little girl light up with each character or parade passing by.

i went to disney world when i was 13 and felt too old for a lot of it. i enjoyed universal studios a lot more.

last year i had a friend and his wife, who are like upper 30's, go to disney world by themselves with no kids (they don't have kids). that is one place i would 100% never go without having kids to take there. no clue why grown adults would want to go blow that much money on a trip like that when they could go to europe or the carribean for the same price.

They already have a Disney World for adults; it's called Vegas. They've got rides (NYNY roller coaster, the shit on the top of the Stratosphere, the Spearmint Rhino), they've got costumed mascots (the highest volume of Elvis' per capita WORLDWIDE), they've got stage shows (except the Mouseketeers have been replaced by half-naked French Canadians), and all of it is fueled by overpriced booze, cocaine and regret.

If you are a kid at heart go for it.

I was in Orlando a few years ago for a conference. We had a free day and head over there. Had a great time.

Get the 4 to 5 day pass. You can only enter one park each day. You can buy the park hopper, but, you may be too tired to check out another park within one day. So, I suggest you go with the multiple day pass.

In regards to the lines, get yourself set up with the fast pass;
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/plan/my-disney-experience/fastpass-plus/.

It’s included with your ticket, package or Annual Pass at no extra charge.

You can 'pre-book' something like 3 - 4 rides (it varies based on the number of guests for that day). Instead of waiting over an hour, you'll be on the popular rides within 20 minutes, at worst. And, you have a window of time to use your booked time slot. Something like within the hour of when you booked.

http://touringplans.com/walt-disney-world/fastpass#

Also, hit 'Ohana; https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/polynesian-resort/ohana/menus/

You see this? DO YOU SEE THIS?

You need to have yourself some of bread pudding from 'Ohana. Do dinner or lunch,.. or both. You need to have yourself some bread pudding.

Also, in that same resort (Polynesian), have the Tonga toast at Kona Cafe.

Do you see this? DO YOU SEE THIS???

Anyway, plan and research, use the fast pass, just get the multiple day pass and, use the public transport if you want to save some $ on renting a car. You going from the resort to the parks takes about 30 to 45 minutes with their buses. So, it's not too bad.

edit: I can't say much about downtown disney. When I went it was PACKED and damn near impossible to move around freely. Check it out though, it looked like a nice place to walk around and have a few drinks.

Or you can go to the original american adult disney world, Bourbon Street.

If you're an adult over the age of like 25, Bourbon Street is not for you. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed stumbling drunkenly around in 5 blocks of piss, vomit, and shame filled streets bar hopping. But, at some point, I discovered cheap alcohol isn't a substitute for fine food and fare. Vegas is much better.

Last time I went it was 2010 or 2011... was in the area for another event. Wife and I had a good time. I recommend doing Universal Studios too, we had a blast in the CityWalk area for some nighttime entertainment.

As soon as the new Star Wars area is set up, we'll be headed to wherever that gets put in.
