Disney World - For Adults?

I didn't want to go there as a kid or an adult.

But I work with/know a LOT of people that go there (adults) and love it.

I don't get it, but whatever floats their boat. Some of them even leave the kids behind!

I guess it's part of American tradition or something.

To me it's simply the most overhyped/overly expensive theme park.

i have a husband and wife friend who went to disney last year. no kids yet. they had a blast.

And they are creepers. If you can take a vacation, why would you choose to go to a place filled with screaming children? Either you enjoy being around children, as an adult (creeper) or you have screaming children you are catering too.

If you're an adult over the age of like 25, Bourbon Street is not for you. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed stumbling drunkenly around in 5 blocks of piss, vomit, and shame filled streets bar hopping. But, at some point, I discovered cheap alcohol isn't a substitute for fine food and fare. Vegas is much better.

Fine food, for that you want to visit New Orleans ... Its pretty much north americas fine food mecca.

I do not enjoy vegas. Its even hot in vegas in the winter. And theres too much casinos and its all sprawling.


I love the french quarter of new orleans, its filled with 200+ year old colonial Spanish architecture and just beautiful and magnificent. In the early spring, late fall, and winter, its often very comfortable in new orleans.

Last time I was there, it was January, and highs were in the 60s and 70s. It was perfect. I visited in my early 30s, but also visited in my early 20s once too. Planning to visit again in the next year or so (some time before I hit 40).

First off, late May is NOT a good time to go to theme parks in Lake Buena Vista or Orlando. Go during the Fall season when the temps are cooler and less people/crowds.

That said, if you're looking at this trip for entertainment, skip Walt Disney World. On the other hand, the food at WDW is :thumbsup::thumbsup:.

In order of which WDW theme parks are fun (for those older than 10-years-old ):
Animal Kingdom > Epcot (especially for food!) > Hollywood Studios > Magic Kingdom

I suggest skipping WDW and go to Islands of Adventure in Orlando. Everyone (all ages who can get in) should go on the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride.....it's badass. The new area, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley, was still being built when we went (a couple of years ago), but everything I've read about it seems like it would be fun. Order Butter Beer (non-alcoholic drink) while you're there too. Mmmm. Islands of Adventure rockkks.

Next day, go to Kennedy Space Center over by the coast. They're not offering the specific tour we went on (Mega Tour which was 3.5+ hours long where we went inside the Vehicle Assembly Building and got to stand 100 yards from Launch Pad 39A), but the "Explore Tour" and "Launch Control Center Tour" look somewhat comparable.

Go on an Everglades Tour to see alligators. We did it by Tram, http://www.sharkvalleytramtours.com/, but there are other places you can go by airboat.

Whats the best means to get discounts? I always go and cringe everytime we pay $100+ for tickets. Someday we're going to have a kid that wants to go and it's going to be 4-5 days in the park. Got any tips on keeping it somewhat on a budget?

Adults, without kids, in Disney World, are weird.

My sister said she saw lots of childless adults standing in lines for AUTOGRAPHS of the characters.
She talked to a few and they said they didn't have kids, or the kids were at home.
Seriously... you have mental issues if you do this.

I always enjoyed Busch Gardens over Disney World myself personally, but have had friends with kids come down and went over to mouse land many times over the years, if they are in the 5-12 year old range seems about best.

Universal Islands of Adventure is good also, I agree.

Haven't been to any of them in quite awhile I suppose.

I used to hit the Cape now and then for various reasons even work related, it's a good trip.

I go to Disney with my wife and we don't have kids. She likes the Disney characters (well, mostly Minnie). We haven't stood in line for an autograph, but we have for a picture. There's nothing creepy about it.

I often go down to Anaheim for a convention, and everytime my wife says she will only go if we can go to Disney Land.

Really? we went to Animal Kingdom last time we were there (for the first time) and we were incredibly disappointing. It is their latest park to be built and it seemed like there was little to do. Lots of it is "pet the animal" type crap that only kids enjoy. Not many rides either.

Disney World is for children. If you're an adult, and the reason you went isn't because "my kids haven't been", welcome to the creeper list.

Sadly, I know people like this. I work with one woman who loves Disneyland, she wears Mickey Mouse sweatshirts to work and goes there with her husband a few times each year (I think they have season passes). They have no children either.

Personally, you couldn't pay me to go to Disneyland/world. They ONLY reason to go there is for your kids. My wife and I took our son when he was 5 or 6 and he hasn't asked to go back and I'm sure as fuck not suggesting it. And we live only about an hour from Disneyland.

I can think of much better ways to spend a few hundred dollars.

Or you went to Disney World as a kid and are re-living present memories, in addition to, I don't know, enjoying the attractions? My freaking high school choir trip went to Disney World and it was awesome. If ~300 14-18 year olds can enjoy it, there's no reason adults can't.

Space Mountain may not be the most intense roller coaster out there but it's still awesome. And FYI last time I was there the screaming children were minimal. Most of the children actually weren't screaming, they were having a blast. If you don't like being around happy children then that's your problem.

I enjoyed it 'cause of how *different* it was compared to the run-of-the-mill theme parks. Animal Kingdom had props that made you feel like you were going on a Safari (e.g. each jeep's cargo carrier was loaded with gear) or like the Expedition Everest ride had weathered-looking buildings and a whole bunch of prayer flags outside. When you're walking around, even the landscaping made it seem like you were elsewhere (not in a theme park). I guess I appreciate neat details like that.

Animal Kingdom is also building a new ride, Avatar, set to open in 2017.

I went once as a child, once as a teen and we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge for our honeymoon. I enjoyed it every time I went. When I went for the honeymoon I really don't remember seeing many kids. Maybe they sprayed for them or something...

Epcot center == awesome.

Honestly, why a 19 yo would want to go to "Disney World" (Magic Kingdom) is beyond me, but you'll definitely have a blast at Epcot center.

You may also want to look into Universal Studios if you're down there already.
