I just watched this movie. I had never seen it before, so I watched it beginning to end.

I honestly don't understand why it's popular. In the stable of Disney movies, it has got to be one of the least impressive. Visuals were pretty, but songs were terrible and the villain got next to no screen time. I don't even think he got a song.

Overall, bleh.

As a guy with two daughters who love it, I liked that the story is about sisters trying to help each other. And As a guy with a wife that loves musicals, I'm going to disagree with your opinion. The only problem with it is it gets played to much in my house.

Having seen Idina Menzel who plays Elsa live including on Broadway, she's an amazing singer. The composers did Book of Mormon, which is hilarious. Personally I liked how they turned the standard Disney trope of immediately falling in love on its head and how they made the prince the bad guy.

Anyway checkout the Honest Trailer for it:

The opening number with the ice men was just boring and dumb (who cares to ever hear THAT again?).

That quirky number she sings with the guy didn't have the lyrical quality of an Ashman+Menken number and fell flat with me.

Even the big "Let it go" number felt out of place.

Why the fuck are the trolls and their stupid song in the movie at all. Who decided to keep that crap in the movie?!

It was better than most non-Disney musicals, but I didn't really like it.

Tangled was much better.

Princess and the Frog was much better.

I like Frozen, but not any more (but not significantly less than, either) the Disney movies that preceded it. I don't have any real complaints about the plot, characters, voice acting, etc of the movie, but I do agree with Ichinisan about the lyrical quality... it's not up there with the Broadway-level animated musicals that have been done in the past. The songs are still fun and catchy, but lyrically and thematically they don't rank highly on my list.

She's a good singer, but oddly (or not so oddly, since I do actually like a fair number of her songs) I actually prefer Demi Lovato's version of "Let It Go".

Totally agreed. Obviously we're not their target audience, but damn, Disney has done so much better.

First of all, the movie is aimed at kids. Secondly, as a parent of girls, I actually found the movie to have the best message of all other Disney classics. Don't fall in love with the first sweet talking guy you meet. And true love between sisters, and all that.

That's pretty much the only song in the film that I don't dislike greatly.

Not that I'm against singing 'Let it go!' at pissed off people at the pub to take the piss!

Edit: Oh yeah. Why would you watch this if you don't have young girls? It's a kids film. For kids. Primarily girls.

... Some (most!) disney animated films have been very watchable even outside of that target audience. This is the first one i've seen that i thought "wow, that sucked..."

Of course, i haven't seen tangled, princess and the frog, etc., either.

But if you look at films like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, etc., you get villians who are actually well done. Musical scores that can actually be listened to.

I'm just saying disney dropped the ball.

OP, I'll let other criticize but it continues to surprise me how many modern and poular movies I've never seen before. In this case, the only yardstick on success (for Disney) is how much money the movie made. Come on ... Hollywood NEVER puts out crap ... right? It does not matter how good/bad a movie is just so that it makes the studio a profit.

I was going to say that we, as a society, will lap up just about any pile of dog crap that Disney craps out at us ... but then I recall John Carter.

If you are old enough to post here then its not a surprise that you didn't like it. btw, you watched the entire movie that's meant for elementary and middle schoolers, doesn't that say something?

not really. just because shows appeal to a target audience, doesn't mean they can't appeal beyond that target audience. a good movie is a good movie, regardless of it's intended audience.

I loved it. It pissed off the conservatives with its progressively yet well hidden gay sexual tension while playing like a video game. Yeah it bogged down in the middle and got way too kaleidoscopeie. Oh and the chics looked human enough to warrant sexual attraction.

/did i just say that out loud?

Not sure if serious. It's actually one of the catchier songs of the movie.

Yeah: it says that Frozen SUCKS because their other films can also be enjoyed outside their target audience.

That's why Pixar films were so great. That's why Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, etc are great, even as stage musicals for adults. The Princess and the Frog nailed it, Tangled was as close as The Little Mermaid and was pretty good. Frozen, OTOH, needs excuses like "don't judge! it was made for little girls!"
