I am getting a new video card AMD rx 480 (hope I don't regret this) updating my old nvidia 780.
problem is my main monitor is 2560 and dvi only.
My other monitor is 1920 with hdmi and dvi.

the card has 3 display port 1.3/1.4 connectors and an hdmi connector.

What cables do I need to connect the display port to dual link dvi?

(ps would love to go get a new asus free sink monitor but can't right now)

Looks like I am back on the waiting game again.

It will probably be months before the non reference get shipped.
BUT I am worried about the cards performance at high res so maybe its a good thing.

Or you could just wait for custom AIB models. AMD has stated that the Polaris chip does support DVI and board partner models will have dvi ports, just not on the reference model

Got a link for that? Not having DVI on a reference card in that segment is a complete blunder by itself. Specially if the chip actually supports it.

I read somewhere that the card comes with a DP -> DVI adapter but I havent seen a picture of it in the box contents yet.

Both works for that, however DP has a better future, DVI-D is getting pretty old now.

You'll need a dongle for DP > DVI, I have one and it just works fine (also have DP > HDMI and mDP > VGA for an older monitor). And they're usually $20-30, don't buy that $86 one.

He will need that "$86" one if he wants 1440p with his adapter. the cheaper, passive or non powered active can only do 1080p

Looks like 1070 / 1080 are having booting issues with DVI past 81hz:

The second design flaw to hit the GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 after the fan revving bug, isn't confined to the reference "Founders Edition" cards, but affects all GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 cards. Users of monitors with dual-link DVI connectors are noticing problems in booting to Windows with pixel clocks set higher than 330 MHz. You can boot to windows at default pixel clocks, and when booted, set the refresh-rates (and conversely pixel clocks) higher than 330 MHz, and the display works fine, it's just that you can't boot with those settings, and will have to revert to default settings each time you shut down or restart your machine.

A user of a custom-design GTX 1070 notes that if the refresh rate of their 1440p monitor is set higher than 81 Hz (the highest refresh rate you can achieve with pixel clock staying under 330 MHz) and the resolution at 2560 x 1440, the machine doesn't correctly boot into Windows. The splash screen is replaced with flash color screens, and nothing beyond. The system BIOS screen appears correctly (because it runs at low resolutions). The problem is also said to be observed on a custom-design GTX 1080, and has been replicated by other users on the GeForce Forums.
