So my washer/dryer both broke in same week. I shopped around for a week and settled on a Samsung set. Sunday I purchased the set from our local lowes. I had to get a friend to help move the set in. The washer was did not work on day one. Today a "tech" came out and guessed its a part that will take 2 weeks to get. So I'm expected to wait 2 more weeks to wash laundry.

I called Samsung expecting some type of help in expediting the part or situation, to no avail. I asked them if I should just return the set and purchased a LG set, I was told if that's what makes me feel better. Needless to say I will never purchase any Samsung products again.

Ya I am tomorrow morning. Just the amount of work it took to buy and install in basement, makes me sick to my stomach.

So your punishment to Samsung was to buy another subpar Korean appliance? GG, I guess.

Not that Maytag hasn't been resting on it's laurels, but LG, seriously?

It does suck!!! I'm a single parent and was excited to make laundry a bit easier. Then this has to happen. Them basically telling me to just return it is a kick in the boys.

Had a top of the line GE set only lasted 11 years. last 4 was me fixing it to keep alive. Samsung and LG are top 2 for washer/dryer.

OP, try buying Maytag Centennial washers/dryers. The price is right until you discover that your washer/dryer is rusting out right before your eyes ... in less than 4 years.

So much fun!

That's not most of them? There and China.

We have a kenmore fridge (LG) that I just had some work done to, 8 years old. Repair guy said he wouldn't bother if it was a samsung. My Mom's samsung has had 2 circuit boards already. Maybe 5 years old.

Customer service at its finest. Yep, take it back. It's a pain, but it's only a sign of what is to come down the road if you keep it.

PS I used to work for Maytag. They haven't been about quality for about 15 years. They also haven't been Maytag for about 10 years. I garnered much of my disdain for corporate policies and greed from them. Then when Whirlpool bought them, they closed up all the US plants and shipped them over the border but kept the name even though the product and quality are not nearly the same as it used to be.

The key point that showed true colors of how corporations work is that I posed the question once of....if washing machines last 20-30 years, and there are 5-10 companies selling machines, don't you reach a saturation point? Their answer? Yes, and this is why we now build them to fail in 7. They cost less to build, and people have to buy them more often, but we charge the same amount. (based on inflation).

This isn't a singular mindset.

True, on where they are manufactured. I guess engineering consists of :"how much money will this part save our masters?"

I have seen with my own eyes a Kenmore fridge survive 15 years of use, washer and dryer, more than 20 with minor fixes which were pivotal moments in my childhood helping fix the washing appliance.

I still buy Kenmore and Frigidaire for most major appliances myself.

Some of mine are probably older that 20 years.

One thing to keep in mind too though is that digital breaks way more often than non digital.

20 year old appliances do not represent the quality today.
That's part of the point, more or less.

I'd stay away from anything digital in a washer or dryer still these days if possible, a fridge even.

Difficult to do though. That's the whole "keeping prices down" thing.

You just got a few duds. It sucks, but it happens. I've had a pair of Samsungs for a long time and they're awesome. All four of my sisters, several of my friends, and a few people I know from work have Samsung W & D with no issues.

We always buy extended warranties to deal with this kind of stuff and it always pays us back more than we put in. Our dryer stopped heating because of the thermostat, but we paid for the 7 year warranty from Lowe's, which got it fixed in two days for free. I don't have time to mess with that shit, so $300 on a $1,500 purchase was well worth it. We already recouped all of that on a single repair due to the cost of the part and my time.

I have never bought an extended warranty on anything, but if most major appliances these days are only digital, I've obviously not bought one in a long time, I might on those.

I got the LG WM3470HVA and DLEX3470V last week from Lowe's. Been working great so far. On sale again this week for $900 for graphite, $800 for white.

Make sure to get a 10% off coupon ($3-4) on ebay. Use Chase Freedom for another 5%, and possibly an additional 5% through Chase UR. Think Discover card may also have 5-10% at Lowe's, need to get me one of those.

I've heard two things about Samsung appliances....they're quite good overall and their service still lacks, mostly due to still having no depth to the service infrastructure like Am. appliance mfgrs. have since Samsung is still relatively "new" to the Am. market.

No complaints about our Whirlpool stuff.
