Distorted DVD

I recorded some movies on DVD to watch on DivxDVD player. What happens it that i get discoloration ( such like one would get in buffer underrun while watching on computer). If the scene stays on one spot for some time the discoloration dissepates but as soon as things start moving it gets distorted again...Some movies are fine, others are distorted. All movies work fine on computer. Is something wrong with my recording. I have a new LG dvdr/rw

This discolouration wouldn't be green by any chance would it?

If so, possible mpeg2 decoder problems. Reinstall.

no its all the different colours. You would get this sometimes in Divx movies. Just for a second you get these coloured squares that dissipate over a few seconds

You're saying that the copies play fine in your computer, but not in a standalone dvd player?

Edit: You're seeing no discoloration on your computer?

yes on computer they play as they should, but as soon as i try playing those movies on dvd player i get the wierd colour squares. I also seen this on sattelite tv when signal is lost

Don't know on this one... What programs are you using to make the DVD and what settings are you using to encode?

The problem is that the DVD player is having trouble reading the DVD surface. When you get read errors on the video stream you'll see that "block", its called artifacting. You'll see this on satellite TV as well during a rain storm. If anything interrupts the MPEG-2 stream, i.e. read errors/bad data, it will try and compensate with the last key frame(i think its I-Frame for MPEG-2) thta was good.

Diablo is on the money. But other things to consider is the DVD player itself. I've seen this many times and most of the time it is the DVD player that is the culprit although it could also be the encoder. Tyr using Shrink and try the disc on a different DVD player. I just bought an LG or Samsung DVD player (capable of reading any DVD format, i.e. DVD-/+R, DVD RAM, etc. .) and it works great. Cost ? Less than $50.00!
