The Mecha was like a Prawn suit. It looked like a Prawn and it had a head like a prawn with the whisker things etc. Thats probably why you felt bad.

Which scenes?

Whenever there was action in the first third or so (documentary portion). Are you sure you saw District 9? You can even see this in the commercials and trailers.

I haven't seen the blair witch project that others in the thread compared it to, so maybe it wasn't as bad as that, but it was certainly on the level of scenes from the bourne ultimatum, which people complained about incessantly back when it came out.

Are you serious? In many of the scenes, they have a wide angle view of the action. I didn't feel any clusterfuck at all when watching the movie.

Yeah, this part ruined the overall film for me. It just made no sense.

Yeah, me either. In fact, if I didn't come into this thead, I would have never known it was a problem. The only part that I can remember where it might have been an issue was when they interviewed Wikas at his office.

all 88% means is that 88% of the critics found it worth while, ie not necessarily breath taking or spectacular...

Oh I know; I thought it was about as good as other films in the 60-70% range

How do you know what they were referring to as "fuel" was what we refer to as fuel. Maybe their ship runs on some sort of biological agent that contains the alien DNA.

I love when people have to have every fricking detail spelled out for them in a movie, leaving nothing to the imagination.

The biggest question was why they didn't return home earlier. The main guy wasted so many drops of fuel when it got sprayed on himself. It'd have to be at least 5 years of work wasted, yet they still managed to make it home with a portion of the fuel.

A quick google search finds an article both referencing "shaky cam" and then showing a scene with said technique in use. The first third of the movie, filmed first-person documentary style, used "shaky cam" whenever there were action sequences (i.e. entering the shacks), as dozens of reviews listed in the OP's link have also noted.

Additionally, I saw no wide angle views during that first third of the movie as you noted, which would be counter to the documentary style the DP as obviously going for, so I'm not sure what you're driving at with that comment (unless you're referring to the second half of the movie for some reason?).

In any event, I couldn't care less, as I'm not the sort of the moviegoer that gets worked about a cinematographic technique, although I do feel bad for that small minority with a low tolerance for vertigo.

Well, I liked this movie more than both Star Trek and The Dark Knight, and both of those scored in the 90s on RT.

I liked them both quite a bit, but Star Trek's story was full of holes and the cutesy mini-versions of the original chars were a bit annoying, and The Dark Knight's cell phone radar thing just seemed lame to me.

I think high 80s for District 9 is appropriate, whereas Star Trek and the The Dark Knight should be in the high 70s low 80s.

Oh and the shaky-cam is nowhere near as jarring as Blair Witch.

yea i just saw it a hour ago and the whole movie was shaky cam and i have a headache from it. movie was really different from all of the other syfy flicks out there. i admit it was suspenseful and a unique storyline. but i can do without the shaky cam stuff.

Just got back from seeing it. I thought it started out a little slow, but the storytelling was superb. Humans are such dicks. That movie showcased probably exactly how we as a race would handle the situation =/

I don't understand why everyone thinks its excessively shaky. I puke from playing 5 minutes of FPS, but I didn't get a single headache from this movie.

The shaky cam was not bad at all. It seemed to me shaky cam was only used in the first portion of the movie, when they went to D9 to start evicting aliens then after that it seemed like it switched back to traditional ways.

It's pretty good; I give it a 9/10. The main character kept reminding me of Steve Carell for some reason.

Saw it earlier today, not spectacular great as Lord Of The Ring but it was pretty good. Solid B+ (88/100) for me.

I just wish we know more about why/how the alliens came to Earth in such a bad shape and there was no leadership/heirachry structure whatsoever.
