disturbing cpu temps

here is my setup
1. asus a7v266-e
2. OEM AMD 1900+
3. Antec Jetcool
4. Thermaltake 6cu
5. Arctic Silver 3

I left my system running all night with United Devices hammering it. I woke up this morning. The cpu temp was 63C But the CPU idles as low as 48C. What is the damn deal. The 48C/61C was with the thermaltake 6cu and arctic silver 3. Is it possible there is something wrong with the CPU? Does this asus board use the internal diode to check the temp or does it use something external almost touching the cpu? I had the Antec Jetcool on for sometime but the results were similar. This is really ticking me off. I've got one intake 80mm and 2 outtake 80mm's next to the cpu (its an Antec 1040 case if that helps you)

Asus boards report "higher' temps than other boards, but typically are much closer to die temps than other boards.

What is your system/motherboard temp?

Part of the problem may be the heatsink...an AMD 1900 gets pretty hot, and it probobly needs a better fan on the heatsink...the 6cu only runs at 4550±10% rpm...the 6cu+ gets up to 7000±10% rpm. But I think the main problem is probobly in the main setup of your case...I can't imagine that the 6cu wouldn't be adequate for that processor.

I have a 1900 and my CPU sits at 39 idle and 43 under load. Make sure you have your heatsink mounted right..(not backwards, you can tel because the heatsink isnt symetric and there is a longer side that goes over the lever and the top of the socket ). also your nto supposed to glob AS3 by any mreans so make sure you have a VERY small amont (less than the size of a dime). try also changing th fan to blow out or in from the CPU. Lastly make sure nothing is bokcing airflow from the front of your case to your CPU, the IDE cables often get in the way and cause trouble with temps, a good exhaust fan usually corrects this prblem or rounder IDE cables.

To answer a bunch of questions. I have 1 80mm fan drawing air in at the front/bottom of the Antec SX1040 and 2 80mm fans blowing air out at the top/back of the case next to the cpu and the power supply is blowing air out next to the cpu as well. All cables in the sytem are single device rounded cables they don't block any air flow _at all_. A friend of mine just recently saw the inside of my case said exclaimed it almost looked empty the cables were so well organized.

Are cpu fans supposed to draw air AWAY from the cpu/heatsink or are they supposed to draw air TOWARDS the cpu/heatsink. This Thermaltake seems to draw air towards the cpu/heatsink. If I wanted to try to make it go the other way how would I do so?

Away. Get a new heatsink? I can't help you there

Did you overclock your system?
Maybe you should reapply the AC3, make sure you set up everything right...not too much AC3...heatsink touching CPU...etc...
and where do you live? Africa...28C system temp?
Mine runs around room temperature ~20 idle ~25 load...but i do have a P4...not like those HOT amd
