Disturbing trend in Texas

This disturbing trend is that people get Suburbans when they have one or two kids, because cars don't have enough room. My friend whose parents have 5 or 6 kids (I'm not sure) and a Suburban, was talking about how his neighbors with a couple kids traded in their Explorer for a Suburban, and another family with one kid bought a "Texas Cadillac". What are these people thinking? How can so many people be so ignorant as to be so susceptible to fashion?

You don't want the answer to that....

I have as much vehicle as I need. No more, no less (not that there could be much less )

Yes but it's growing even stronger now, when "pundits" are saying that the SUV fad is dying.

Who cares? Whats the big deal? More room in a vehicle is always nice. Besides, I assure you my Expeidtion can pull more, haul more and go more places then your car that has "just enough room".
It isnt always the obvious uses, but sometimes the untapped potential that lures us to these vehicles. If I go on vacation, I can take a boat, go off road etc etc. Granted I dont NEED that much vehicle for everyday use.
But thats why I have my Super-Taurus (No, there is NOTHING super about it. Its a POS.)

So, having a SUV for every day use is beyond me, that I dont understand. Or having it as your only vehicle. But, as a second, its grrrrrrr-eat!

Dying fad? I only wish....I think gas would have to hit $6-7 a gallon to drive people back to smaller cars these days.

One of the ONLY reasons why war with Iraq might be good. With a little bit of luck, gas can skyrocket to 2.50 a gallon, making SUV drivers rue the day they bought their behemoth.

Yes an SUV as a second car is great, but people around here (well not so much in Austin as Houston), use them as everyday use, because 1) they feel the need to have and use a vehicle that does everything, no matter the costs to society and the environment, and 2) a Suburban is as much a status symbol as a BMW 3 series.

Whatever. People in Texas are allowed to drive Suburbans. They have ranches within 10 miles of their homes, and they have always driven Suburbans. It is the posers in most of the other Lower 48 that don't derserve Suburbans.

I don't think attacking Iraq will increase gas prices though.

Do we also wear cowboy hats and belt buckles and lynch black people ? I should have been more clear. I'm talking about people living in Houston suburbs. People who have ranches and such do NOT drive Suburbans.. hence the name "Suburban".
I think they do lynch black people at College Station though.

They don't lynch anyone these days. And people that do have ranches do actually drive Suburbans. At rate, who cares? Unless you're driving a hybrid electric or riding a bicycle I don't see how you can get on a pedestal and preach about damage to the environment.

Suburbans et al are popular because of cheap gas. Watch happens to the demand for 2 to 3 ton commuter trucks when gas goes over $3.00 a gallon.

Who the fvck cares. When did you people all of sudden become environmentalists and only bought stuff on on need.

Like your v6 Accord w/ 200+ hp is really all that god damn necessary. I mean after all, you really need to be a speed racer w/ fast acceleration in a FAMILY SEDAN. Why dont you go complain about sports sedans or convertibles or motorcycles.

Geez, biggest group of whiners out of all types are SUV haters. Get on w/ your life. I'm sure there are more important things that you can whine about in your life.

I can see how it would come in handy for an active family.

Sure, they may have only two kids, but when they go places, kids bring friends. I know whenever we went camping or backpacking, or to Disneyland or Magic Mountain while I was growing up, each kid in my family brought a friend along.

We also car pooled kids to events.

And on the subject of camping or traveling, have you ever tried to fit everything you need for a family of four in a car or small SUV? You can't, you need a trailer or rooftop box.

My parents got a full size van back then (about the biggest thing you could get in the 70s), and it STILL was too small for us. My dad had to get a trailer AND a rooftop box for when we went camping.

All I'm saying is, unless you know these people intimately, you cannot know if they really need the vehicle or not... nor is it up to you to determine that.

When you see the woman driving a large SUV alone, how the fsck do you know why she's alone? Ever occur to you that she may have just dropped the kids off someplace, or is on her way back to get them?

In fact, A parent will be alone in their family vehicle a majority of the time. Does this mean they have to buy a smaller vehicle because it offends you to see them driving it alone?

You claim to care about the working man, yet you want to force working families to buy two cars, where one will do it all? Are YOU going to pay for it?

There is nothing more anoying, to me, than when I am driving my SUV down the freeway and some pesky little put-put car is going slow in front of me. I get right on their tail with my ultra white halogen head lights and fogs. The bastards! When will people who drive small POS's learn to get out of the way of those of us who have places to go and things to do? Hahaha!

If you're referring to my post, I only buy as much car as I need because they are expensive. Sure, being able to tow a typhoon class Russian sub might come in handy, but I can't afford the vehicle to do it.

People following trends is stupid too, but as we live in a free country, I don't care what people drive. Seems like 1 volcano would do the polluting of 50 years worth of world traffic.

Sorry, wasn't even referring to you but to general SUV haters.

But you said it yourself. If you have the money, why not? A vehicle that can do pretty much anything I could possibly imagine be using it for would be nice. I don't know about you people, but I've had numerous incidents where I wished I had or needed a bigger car. A monster Suburban necessary? Not really, but thats their choice.

Trends? Yeah I agree it sucks, but whining ain't going to do much about it.

most working families do not need the space of a suburban or another gigantor SUV... in their most common applications, they're completely unnecessary...

Wouldnt a war w/ Iraq (well a regime change actually) bring gas prices low/constant in the long run? Considering it being the second largest oil reserve, secure our source of oil, possibly limit our dependence on OPEC, etc etc.

They are thinking that this country lets them buy whatever they want...

Why do you own the computer that you own? You could make due with a PIII 450MHz.... yet you choose something faster (probably anyway). You are just wasting electricity! What are you thinking?
